Liberal or Conservative Test
Simply copy it and post your answers.

Freedom

Do you think we should promote the rights and responsibilities of the individual, free choice within an open competitive process, the free market, and the dual responsibility of the state to protect the individual citizen and guarantee their liberty?

Do you believe that economic freedom may lead to gross inequality?

Free speech may lead to speech that is obscene, blasphemous, or treasonous?

Do you believe that role of the state as promoter of freedom and as protector of its citizens may come into conflict in these circumstances?

Democracy

Do you believe that a representative democracy is the best form of government?

Do you think that even elected representatives are subject to the rule of law?

Do you think that the power of the government should be moderated by the constitution, which emphasizes the protection of rights and freedoms of individuals and limits the will of the majority.

Do you believe that differing political and social views, even extreme or fringe views, should compete for political power on a democratic basis and have the opportunity to achieve power through periodically held elections?

Do you believe that all political differences should be settled by peaceful means within the bounds of democratic or lawful processes?

Do you believe in universal involvement and participation of citizens in the democratic process?

Or would you prefer direct democracy instead of representative democracy?

Civil rights

Do you believe in civil rights for all citizens?

Should the protection and privileges of personal liberty extended to all citizens equally by law?

Do you believe in  the equal treatment of all citizens irrespective of race, gender and clas?

Do you believe that everyone has a right to food, shelter, and education?.

Do you believe that these are rights but only for citizens of the US?

Rule of law

Do you believe that the rule of law and equality before the law are fundamental to our society?

Do you believe that government authority may only be legitimately exercised in accordance with laws that are adopted through an established procedure?

Or do you believe in the necessity of an independent judiciary, whose political independence is intended to act as a safeguard against arbitrary rulings in individual cases.

Do you believe in such concepts such as the presumption of innocence, no double jeopardy, and Habeas Corpus.

Do you in general reject punishments that are inhumane, including capital punishment?

Neutral government

Do you believe that it is not for the state to determine personal values.

Do you agree with this statement by John Rawls? "The state has no right to determine a particular conception of the good life".

Do you believe that a government of neutrality on personal morality is expressed in the Declaration of Independence as the right to the pursuit of happiness.

Do you support the pro-choice movement?

Do you advocate equal rights for women and homosexuals?

Equality

Are you personally of the opinion that Racism is incompatible with modern democracy?

But, do you support  affirmative action?

Do you in general support equal opportunity, but not necessarily equal outcome.

Would you agree that arbitrary discrimination on the basis of race or gender is morally wrong.

Free market

Do you favor ideas that stress the importance of a free market and free trade, and seek to limit government intervention in both the domestic economy and foreign trade?.

Or do you agree in principle with the idea of free trade, but maintain some skepticism, seeing unrestricted trade as leading to the growth of multi-national corporations and the concentration of wealth and power in the hands of the few.

Or do you think that a high quality of health care and education should be available for all citizens, but differ on the degree to which governments should supply these benefits.

Do you think that poverty is a threat to personal liberty?

If you do, d you think we as a society should seek a balance between individual responsibility and community responsibility. In particular, do you favor special protection for the handicapped, the sick, the disabled, and the aged.

Environment

Do you seek to minimize the damage done by the human species on the natural world, and to maximize the regeneration of damaged areas. Would you support an attempt to make changes on an economic level by acting together with businesses, or do you favor legislation in order to achieve sustainable development.

QuoteACCORDING TO YOUR ANSWERS,

The political group that
agrees with you most is...

LIBERAL

LIBERALS usually embrace freedom of choice in personal
matters, but tend to support significant government control of the
economy. They generally support a government-funded "safety net"
to help the disadvantaged, and advocate strict regulation
of business. Liberals tend to favor environmental regulations,
defend civil liberties and free expression, support government action
to promote equality, and tolerate diverse lifestyles.

Driven1

CONSERVATIVE...

CONSERVATIVES tend to favor economic freedom, but frequently

support laws to restrict personal behavior that violates "traditional
values." They oppose excessive government control of business,

while endorsing government action to defend morality and the

traditional family structure. Conservatives usually support a strong

military, oppose bureaucracy and high taxes, favor a free-market

economy, and endorse strong law enforcement.

LIBERTARIAN

LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and

economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one

that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence.

Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose

government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate

diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.

this quiz presents a quandry for Stephendare....he claims to be a conservative, yet if he takes the quiz and it scores him a liberal, what to make of those claims?  and if indeed it scores him a conservative, how then can he so vocally support the most liberal of the three current presidential candidates?  and libertarian is not a choice, because he has never said he is one.  he has only made claims to be a conservative with all liberal beliefs.  inquiring minds want to know.

Jimmy

That's what makes the quiz so much fun!  It's a great way to challenge your own beliefs and see where you really come down.

Then again... I'm a "liberal" who's a proponent of the 2nd amendment and who supports the death penalty.  There's always the potential for a fly in the proverbial ointment.

i'm definitely pro-guns.  love em, shoot em & think the government has absolutely zero right to know what i have and/or how many.  i'm not sure on the death penalty.  think i am more against that than for it.

For the record, Libertarian here.

I think people put WAY too much stock in these labels.  They really mean nothing.  What about the voters/candidates that are conservative on some issues but liberal on others? I count myself in that group.

Bush is far from conservative, yet conservatives love him.

Pay attention to the ideas and the individual, don't take the lazy, mindless way out by putting stock in these meaning less labels.
