Jacksonville's Black Gay Past?

I am doing research trying to compile a list of America's Black Gay Past. I'm wondering if the group can help me out with names of predominantly black gay clubs, bars, lounges, Red Light Districts or ANYWHERE where African American Gays, Lesbians and Transgenders carved out a niche for themselves in times past. Looking for1990s all the way back through late 1800s if anyone has that info. ANY information you could give would be appreciated. Just need some names and/or maybe a the  street if possible that I can research online.

Also, my father tells me of a straight club back in the 40's and 50's called "The Deuce" that he thought burned down? He remembers partying at the 2-Spot but also vaguely remembers a club called the Deuce but can't remember where it was as he is in his mid 80s and has forgotten some things.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Leon

There was the Duece, there was the French Quarter downtown, there was the club during the 1980s over in springfield on 2nd, and for a while The Third Dimension was the defacto 'black' gay bar in town.

Thank you Stephendare for the help, I really do appreciate it. I am researching the names you gave me now and hope to find more. I was beginning to wonder was it possible that Jacksonville had NO gay black clubs (LOL)? My mother tells me that back in the 50's some referred to Jacksonville as the little NY so I'm hoping that there are many more.

I also forgot to mention that a Red Light District is an area where all the Adult theaters and porn houses are located. I figured everyone knew this but I was told on another site that many don't know what that is so...?

Thanks again Stephendare for you help and if anyone else has other names please let me know.

Thanks again

Wow, you have given me some great information to look into. Sadly the last part of your message about moving the some out and paving over the neighborhood almost sounds word for word like Detroit and other cities.  Thank you very much for the help as I will dig into the information you've given me. I really do appreciate it.
