Why is there so much resistance?

Every day, there is at least one article somewhere in probably every newspaper in the country that has to do with the environment. Why is the public and City Hall in general so dead set against mass transit? In the same vein, why would anyone be considering any transit options that are powered by an internal combustion engine? Yes, getting people out of their cars and onto a bus is a good thing for traffic and the environment. Getting them onto an electric trolley is light years better. Since the electricity would be coming from a nuclear plant, you're talking about a 100% reduction in emmisions for every rider. They have been using electric trains in Europe for many years. It is efficient, quiet and green. I really don't see what the problem is.

I stand corrected. In my defense, I don't actually live in town yet. (I'll be there next week.) I saw the cooling towers when I was there a couple of weeks ago and assumed it was a fission plant. 

I just can't get over how JTA want's to half-ass the mass transit system and spend more money to do it.

I'll just sit back here in the corner and read some more until I get there and then I can go to some meetings and make some better educated noise.

I thought those cooling towers were a nuclear power plant for a long time.  I did not realize that other type of plants use cooling towers.  In the future, JEA may be importing some power from Augusta.  I thought I saw on the news today that a nuclear plant is to be built there, and the JEA wants to take advantage of it.

^ Right on!  JEA has expressed their interest in purchasing power from the proposed nuke plant but its completion is still quite a few years off.

Nuke? It's a possible source for electric trolley's.

Garbage-Steam? Another possible source from Landfill burnables

Garbage-Methane? A good source by tapping wells in old landfills to capture and pipe out/burn Methane gas.

Wind Power? Not so great in Florida, but perhaps out on the Jetties?

Hydro-Electric? As long as the Rodman dam still stands, the whole flow of the Ocklawaha, roars over the spillway!

Solar Power? Reflectors, collectors, steam heat generators, cells, which-ever, we have to be a good site for these systems.

CNG? Natural gas compressed to about 265 psi and burned for power generation

LNG? Liquid gas frozen at 200 below zero, as the pipes heat, the gas reforms as a vapor

Tidal-Electric? A variation of the old hydro-electric plant.

Wave-Electric? A varation of the old hydro-electric plant.

Hydrogen? Major yes, and the waste is pure water!

Coke, Coal with O2 removed so it burns super hot and clean.

Livestock Methane? Poo Power from any commercial stock or zoo operation.

HLNG or HCNG? A blend of Hydrogen and LNG or CNG, machines can run on any % mix up to 100% of one or the other or any blend. Hydrogen is a waste product from chemical and bleach fabrication and burns clean and very, very, uh... it's what fuels NASA!

How do we divorce ourselves from the diesel pump?

Easy, several companies will come in, study the available resources, create the plant, the pumps and filling facility for buses and carry 100% of the costs. In return the transit authority gives them a long term contract to purchase alternative fuel at a price set .50/1.00 lower then the market rate of diesel.
