He's left the urban core to die on the vine.

I'm not a huge fan right now, but this statement is simply not true.  The Mayor strongly advocated for creating the DIA and has been actively recruiting companies to move downtown.  He's also been spending a bit more time with the neighborhood organizations, including the Urban Core CPAC.

^  Economics would have nothing to do with this ::)    Brown was the better of the two choices remaining.

While I don't like that he was silent on the human rights issue, I don't think he has done a horrible job.

That said, If Audrey Moran  or Glorious Johnson runs again (I doubt the latter)  , I would vote for either.

I could have some respect for Alvin if he would actually hold some town hall meetings, and not some cheesy Facebook session that remains off record(epic failure). At this point I feel lied to, ignored, and completely frustrated. I'm tired of the "next level" vague line and watching everything he puts a finger on turning into another open can of worms. I too would rather have Audrey Moran. Alvin won by 1648 votes, it only takes 1,000 signatures to start this process. For those of you that actually say you like him, I'm curious if any of you can tell me why?

Alvin did not keep his word with the MetroJacksonville Editorial Board.  In fact he has so far ignored his guarantees to us.

However he is still not Mike Hogan, which is reason enough to be glad every day that he is in office, and he hasnt made any grave errors other than firing Bill Killingsworth and Theresa Price O Donnell.

He hasnt really screwed the pooch on anything yet, and other than the questionable monies diverted from the Jaguars Owner to his wife's non profit, (allegedly to help veterans) and his deplorable lack of leadership on the equality bill, no egregious f'ups that would merit a recall.

Jacksonville historically does not like sour grapes politics, would rather follow the good sport rules and doesnt consider disappointment a cardinal sin.

I can tell you that I personally would not support any kind of recall at this time, and I think you would have a hard time convincing anyone older than 13 and members of the Hogan family to support such a move at this time.

John Peyton walked a far more ambiguous line with even more disappointing results that Alvin Brown has so far without a viable recall effort.  Not to mention that there is probably very little appetite to impeach and recall the first African American Mayor of Jacksonville, nor would there be any political likelihood of that happening.

However, there is going to be an election, and considering that Alvin reneged on his word to our board---as well as many of his supporters from Audrey's camp--- he cannot expect to have our blessing or support in a re election effort.  Not really thrilled about word breakers.

We shall see what happens between then and now, but by my lights another candidate for mayor with some vision and some insight would be very welcome.

It took a bunch of sour grapes and raisins to get his attention on the Armory not being used as a homeless drop-in center. I'm sure a recall is unlikely also, but if the threat will get him to start paying attention to the people that got him elected he might redeem himself and actually start a real conversation. There is a lot of work to be done. It would be nice if he would piss or get off the pot.

Ocklawaha

Piss? I always thought it was, "shit or get off the pot???"

Mayor Davis has a nice ring to it, though I'm not ready to completely abandon Alvin yet.

QuoteJacksonville is one of only TWO that doesn't protect its LGBT community--and he worked hard behind the scenes to make sure the exorcists and baptist klansman kept that in place.

Would you care to enlighten us as to just who were the klansmen, exorcists and Baptists, and what was their relationship with these organizations?  Considering there are more then 10 national KKK groups and none of them would likely welcome such leadership from a black mayor, who are they and which group are they involved with?

I don't think he's completely terrible, but he's sure no leader. That much is clear. Where is he on the major issues that plague our city?? You never hear from him. Mayors need to be the face & voice of a city, but this guy apparently never leaves his office. Instead we get idiots like Redman & ex crack hos performing exorcisms on TV to slobbering individuals representing Jacksonville.

I don't know if he's scared, or incompetent, or simply letting the same old influences have their way again. Who knows. But I do know he sucks.

By failing to exhibit leadership on HRO Ordinance 296, he totally missed an opportunity to provide leadership in an area that, not only would deliver on a campaign promise but, would provide an economic boost to the city.  If we want to attract and keep the best and brightest talent in our city, we need to be more inclusive.  That's not just a nice thing to do, it's an economic necessity in this economy.  I don't believe in a recall at this time but he certainly does not warrant re-election without some changes.  I voted for him because he was "not Mike Hogan".  Like many posting here, I supported Audrey Moran and I continually refer to her as our "Mayor in exile".  Jacksonville missed a great opportunity when she lost in the primary.  Thanks Rick Mullaney!

Too soon to judge Mayor Brown.  On the negative side:  his lack of leadership on important issues such as the gay rights bill, city facilities mngt contract, national election, and his lack of accessibility.  He is not at ease with the public; doesn't like to work the crowd, and has far too much security and pomp for a mayor.  But, I'm hoping he is actually working behind the scenes and we'll see progress.  Otherwise, put me in Audrey's campaign.
