Jax Truckies Food Truck Friday Kicks Off Florida/Georgia Weekend

Fire up your tastebuds! SMG and SAVOR are kicking off the 2nd Annual BBQ Block Party at the Arena presented by LandShark.
This year’s event will feature Jax Truckies Food Truck Friday, the largest food truck party in Jacksonville, on Friday, Oct. 26. Your favorite area food trucks will be lined up outside Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena for the lunch rush from 11am â€" 2pm. Jax Truckies Food Truck Friday is expected to draw hundreds of hungry folks from downtown businesses and will be an extraordinary celebration in anticipation of the Zac Brown Band concert happening later that night followed by the Georgia vs. Florida Football Classic on Oct. 27.
Jax Truckies Food Truck Friday is just one element of the 2nd Annual BBQ Block Party. The party will be held from 11am â€" 7pm outside Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. The event is family friendly and admission is FREE! Compete in the Turner Pest Cornhole Fest for a chance to win two tickets to the Zac Brown Band concert.
Additional games including a miniature golf course, football toss and inflatable bounce house will be provided by Amazing Amusements plus an interactive display provided by the Air National Guard.
The highlight of the event is the BBQ contest featuring two dozen teams competing for trophies for Grand Champion, Reserve Champion, Best Chicken, Best Pork and Best Ribs. The Grand Champion winner will also receive free entry into the Jacksonville Backyard BBQ Championships to be held during spring 2013. Winners will be announced at the Block Party at 5pm.
Registration for the BBQ contest is now available at www.jaxevents.com or at www.danielkids.org. Proceeds from registration will benefit Daniel Kids.
BBQ will be judged by certified BBQ judges and local celebrity judges. BBQ and other concessions will be available for purchase from Savor and participating vendors. The BBQ Block Party will also feature live music leading up to the Zac Brown Band concert scheduled to begin at 7pm at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

Which food trucks are the good ones?  So far I have only tried two of them and was unimpressed.

The Corner Taco was overpriced for what you were served.  I paid about $5 for a taco that way very small and less than flavorful. 

Monroe's BBQ was fairly priced, but was 50% fatty meat and almost inedible.

Their chicken soft tacos are yummy! 2 for $5 and very filling.

On The Fly is very good!  They won our food truck championships back in March and recently won Best Food Truck by Folio Weekly.

I like the Driftwood pulled pork sliders.

Really like the wings and steak sandwiches from Mother Fletchers (their dipping sauces all are good as well).

I would say overall On the Fly is the best.  I have had some great dishes and then some not so great dishes from Monroe's.  I wish Corner Taco would bring their prices down.  Gourmet Aviator is good, but I haven't had much of their stuff. I am for sure going on friday.  i hope they don't charge for parking that early.
