^ Hey, George Bush had to do this !  They tried to harm his Daddy.  ( I believe those were the words I heard from him back then) . Possibly the most irresponsible US President , EVER .

Such a bunch of crap , lives lost. lives maimed,  Money wasted (by the train-car loads.. No pun intended, Ock)  And today as it stands,  Iraq is no better off. Nor are we.

again... we will see if doing nothing prevents Muslim radicalism from spreading...

Yes because in the conservative view anything short of shock and awe is doing nothing.

I don't see much in the way of actually articulating what policies led to the problems of today.  My sense of history is a little offended.  I certainly agree that the decision to license dual use chemicals and toxins to the Iraqi's in the 1980's was a mistake.  But I must point out that with the Iran-Iraq war raging at the time, the concerns of the administrations involved is understandable.  These items plus the documented transfer of urainium and the refusal of Iraq to comply with UN inspections made the suspicion of WMD credible to not just President Bush, but to President Clinton as well.

I can not tell from your posts whether you are opposed to the 1991 war as well.  My personal opinion is that the surrender was mishandled and that the Iraqi government was left with too much autonomy.  Of course the positive is that Kuwait was freed and very few American casualties were suffered.

I will ask once more for a coherent explantion of what "policies" you think led to the current situation and why.  The "bumper sticker" answers posted so far are just political statements, not thoughtful reasoning.
