Whatever happend, I heard a Downtown Amabassador chased the guy down until the police got to him. The idiot is now on his way to jail.

News to me, and I go there about everyday. I'll run down in an hour or so and talk to Jennifer. Went to the big store on Roosevelt about 45 minutes ago, saw Ron, he didn't look like anything happened. He was intaking books.

yes the idiot grabbed the cash and made the mistake of doing it during lunch hour rush, with downtown ambassador right at the corner of Laura and Monroe.  not that anytime is a good time to be a stupid crook but during lunch, with hundreds of people milling around on laura street....he had no sense, now is is enjoying a stay at our fabulous jail !

way to go

Really?  Maybe things are turning around downtown.

Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

Kinda sad, actually. To be desperate enough to rob a place in daylight with people around, you either have to be missing a few brain cells (sad) or a drug addict (also sad) or really hungry (the saddest). All judgments aside, this guy needs some help--obviously.

Without knowing anything about him or his motivation, I agree it could be sad.  But robbing the store?  While I can feel compassion for him if he needs help, committing a crime isn't the way to get it.  If the guy was hungry, Sulzbacher will feed him dinner, no questions asked.  At the moment, I'm afraid I'm feeling more compassion for the employees of Chamblin's.  It's really scary to get robbed.

Looks like another attempt to distribute income via one of the direct methods.  Don’t know about the fellow.  Nobody recognized him.  Jennifer heard the words “Stop”… “Stop”, and Summer and Janine ran after a black man in mid-thirties, of average height.  The DVI ambassador rode beside him down Adams, sighting him while calling the police.  Then Ben Burbridge, the artist at the landing who happened to be in the area, apparently grabbed the fellow, holding him for the gestapo.  The girls gave Ben a free lunch.

I wonder if he was out of work, and for how long.  I wonder if he was hungry, or if he needed money for drug stuff.  His behavior suggests he was desperate.

In ’61, in southern California.  I was hungry with no money.  Hearing there was food at the Salvation Army, I went there.  In a room with about fifteen others, I listened to a talk about Jesus.  I was desperate for food, so I listened.  The talk seemed very long because I was hungry.  The food was good, because I was hungry.  As my hunger faded, so did my memory of Jesus.  I will always remember the food from the Salvation Army.

The history of this fellow, the circumstances of his past, his upbringing, is unknown to us.  I wonder if he could get a job even with a better economy.  Being a black fellow, chances are that he already has a police record, one which will be now enhanced, causing him greater difficulty at job hunting.

These times see many desperate people, fellows who want to work, but cannot because there is none.  I find myself wanting to help them, to give them work, but I have none.  I find myself sensing their desperation, and suspect the obstacles set before them in our society.

So, I mean to say that I do not hold bad feelings for this fellow, and find myself wanting to embrace him, to let him know that I do not wish harm to him.  I wonder if he would respond to me with indifference, or with hatred.

I cannot be proud of our society when we have so many fellows like this who, by whatever occasions or circumstances, have ended up being desperate, and without an opportunity or preparedness for work.  I cannot turn from them and simply say, you…… you thief, you worthless scum, you have failed, and therefore you are not a man.  Our society is failing.  We are seeing the fruits of its failing.

Ron, I'm a huge fan of yours, but it's pretty bad form calling the guys who arrested the cat who robbed your store "the gestapo".
