QuoteThe heat exhaust stack will be 115 feet high, and if a proposed combined cycle conversion happens within the next several years, the stack would be 190 feet high.

I wonder how visible that will be from the highway?

That seems about as tall as a normal cell tower, so thats not to rediculous, unlike the monstrous Northside Station, how tall is that, 500 or 600 feet? I love how people think its nuclear just because of the cooling towers  ::)

Northside is 365 feet tall. At 190 feet, these should be visible for some distance. BTW these are scrubbing stacks that clean the smoke. Unclean smoke and the resulting acid rain is why we lost Jaguar at the port back in the 1980's.

That cooling tower is a hyperbolic parabaloid it cools water but what it really does is cut down on the polution we dump into the St. Johns River.  And yes they are cool and cool to study if you're a gemometry freak like myself.

If you're into geometry you should check out the geodesic domes built for storing the petrolium coke and coal for the northside station.  They are monsterous!

I know right, most people do say that! Since I work for the evil electric company I just tell people "yes, they're nuclear and word on the inside is, a meltdown is highly likely anyday now" That usually doesn't go over very well..

Jacksonville has very low electric rates--as I said before the JEA can do nothing wrong in my book.  So, who they going t sell all that excess power to then?

The only wrong they do is those damn manhole covers, well, the street department needs to know how to pave better, if just pave alone! Have you taken a drive up Riverside AVE from the Publix to St. Vincent's fluck that is nasty, especially between Stockton and Barrs. Anywho, JEA, the are a respectable company.

they outsource that.  there are specs that not all contractors meet for each manhole.  you could be awared damages if you run over one that's not in spec--but you didn't hear that from me.  It's all about the smoothing or grid.  If you do have a case, you'd be paid out faster then you'd think.  THis i know.  JEA is awesome making sure you are safe.
