He did have a point about the internet being like CB radio. Just look at how the comments sections were on the news-sites a few years ago.  Before social networking became the norm, people just used handles and never went by their real names online; AOL Prodigy, IRC etc. Online heckling was standard issue for awhile. I remember people who'd only get on AOL just to punt others off and crash their computers.

I think the "wild-west" days of the internet are coming to a end soon. More strict laws on intellectual property rights, governments are starting to clamp down on digital piracy. It's becoming more like real life society. Internet dating used to be shunned and percieved as something only the outcast would do. Now people pay to go onto dating sites.  More people are using their real names online (facebook) and just like real life what you do and say affects your online reputation.

We're all going to be telling our grandkids about the time back in the '00s and 10's when you could just pick anything you wanted online for free. *ahem old man voice* " Movies were free they were, music? noooo, we didn't pay for music back then!" Now they'll come arrest you if you try it.

Long live the piratebay!
