Music industry vet with film experience wants to buy Prime Osborn for $40M

The Prime Osborn would be BEST utilized as a transportation hub connecting  Amtrak, the sky way, commuter rail, regional and local bus services.  The convention center would be best served in the old courthouse building near our city's greatest asset.....the St. Johns River.

This guy should consider the myriads of other vacant downtown properties i.e. Laura Street Trio, etc. for his studio's.  Perhaps even the Springfield warehouse district

The Prime Osborn should be for transportation

Honestly I'd rather preserve Laura Street Trio than the Prime Osborn.

There are plently of other clean slates around DT.  Shipyards and everything east of that might be a place to start, maybe even the Southside Generating Station property.  I don't think the train station or laura trio would be right for this.

The Old Terminal Station should be used as transit but if he has the money (I don't believe it) he could use the halls built as convention space for his project. They would enhance each other.

Southside Generating Station would be great if he were serious.

From the way these posts sound, the guy coming back is a bad thing. Sounds to me like he wants to bring something good into the city.

How could giving the key piece of transportation property and the number one location for a mass transit hub in the southeast to some movie guy be a good thing?

Even if he had all of the money in the Fort Knox, allowing anything else to happen to that property to further hinder it ever being used for transportation purposes again would be a disaster catastrophe.

That building, properly known as JACKSONVILLE TERMINAL STATION, is and always has been the largest and busiest railroad station in America south of Washington, D.C..  I don't care if it was MICKEY or MOONEYHAN, assuming he had the funds, which I seriously doubt, they need to keep their paws off of it.

His plans for the old station have been around for some time, and I'd consider his reuse of this property akin to leveling San Marco for a Wal Mart Super-Center...  A nice shiny super center! RETCH! URP! @#$%^%!!@@#^&%!

How often is the terminal used?

Regardless, Id rather see it used for a transportation center, would we be used. Versus selling it to some guy with a pipe in the sky pipe dream that he wont let go. What IF we sell it to him, then his financing for the project falls through? Where would that leave us?

Then they should make the transportation center happen instead of letting it sit there like an abandon building. Any development are better than what they have right now.

Like I said in the other post, he's willing to pay $40 million for the old convention center. That should be more than enough to build a new convention center. If I was Mayor Brown, I would at least listen to what he has to say and find out what he's truly about. Honestly, I'd rather see something like this go in than a transportation hub. We already lost out in Disneyworld.

Barf.  So it looks like the historic terminal goes, or is it just butchered but still under there somewhere?

Abandoned building?  They do have quite a few events there.

You know how hard it's going to be to get that transportation hub going again? Truthfully, they should've never made it into a convention center (city's bad). I've never heard of anything going on there. And if the guy pays $40 million, build a new one, a better one.

umm...small problem....$40 million isn't going to cut it...

a properly-sized convention center will cost over $100 million and likely closer to $200 million

Ok, jack the price up, then. Even if it were converted back into the transportation hub, you'd still be out of a convention center. My opinion, if this guy has the money, F#%K the transportation hub. These plans are way better!

Wow! These events look pretty boring.

Nevertheless, if this guy has real investment and isn't asking the tax payers for money......let's welcome his venture.  40 million isn't enough for the Prime Osborne considering its potential pricelessness to Jacksonville as a transportation hub, however 40 million is a nice boost to our community.

fsujax

Let him buy the current exhibition hall and leave the head house for the transportation center. We can't let Terminal go into private hands.
