Does anybody have any photos of Downtown during the 1980's? Specifically I'm looking for pictures of when the CSX building had the Seaboard Coast Line and Seaboard Systems logo on the building.

If you are able to get hold of a copy of Old Hickory's Town, An Illustrated History of Jacksonville by James Robertson Ward (1982/1983), there are some pictures of the CSX building with its early 80s logos on it.  Not close up, but as part of skyline panoramics.  I think the Seaboard Coast Line and the Family Lines logos appear in the book.

I have the book and can scan you the pictures if you aren't able to locate it.  I've seen it at Chamblin's downtown before.

There's also a CSX history book that came out in the late 80s that features several shots of downtown in the 80s and I know that there are some pictures of the older logos on the building.  I don't recall the name of the book, but I've seen it repeatedly at model train shows, and I think I saw it at Chamblin's once also.

That is exactly the type of thing I'm looking for. I'll check at Chamblins, thanks!

Amazon also has a couple of copies listed for under $20 on Old Hickory's Town.  Didn't spot the CSX book on there at first glance, though.  There's another CSX book on there, but more recent.  As I recall, the logo could be seen more clearly in the pictures in the CSX book.

I would love to have a good quality photo of the building with that logo. I believe the Seaboard Coast Line was up there in two different styles as well.

Didn't it have "Atlantic Coast Line" on it before "Seaboard"?

ACL (Atlantic Coast Line) built the building, I believe in 1960. It was the prominent building downtown for years. In 1967 Seaboard Air Line Railroad merged with Atlantic Coast Line to form Seaboard Coast Line, and the signage was updated. In 1982 Seaboard Coast Line merged with Lousiville and Nashville Railroad to form Seaboard System and the signage was updated then. In 1986 Chessie and Seaboard Systems merged to create CSX and the building has had some form of "CSX" logo since then.

Unfortunately for my purposes, the 1970s and 80's were a terrible time for downtown Jax and there are not many photos. Tons of photos from 1960-prior, and tons of photos from 1990s to today.

That's too bad because we could still learn lessons from the bad old days of downtown...

You might be refering to the book "Rails 'Neath the Palms," Darwin Publications, Burbank Ca. The downtown library has a copy on the 4Th floor, Florida Collection. The book has several shots of the Atlantic Coast Line/SCL/FL/SS/CSX building and the railroads many facilities. Don't know why I know this, I just do...LOL.
