QuoteThe latest team name in the North American Lacrosse League is the Jacksonville Bullies. The team released the name and logo at a news conference Thursday at Whisky River in the St. Johns Town Center. General Manager Chris Milo unveiled the logo. The team’s head coach, Brian Duncan, and assistant coach, Patrick Harnett, also were introduced at the conference. Both have been a part of the coaching staff of the Jacksonville University lacrosse team. The league’s collegiate draft will be Oct. 13 and the league is tentatively scheduled to start its season the weekend of Jan. 20.

Wooly Bullyyyyyyyyyy...Wooly Bully...Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully. I agree that is a very dumb name. The APR Boulevard Bullies, the lacrosse version of the Broad Street Bullies.

And they had the launch party at Whiskey River...?  This is falling flat on so many levels.

I'm going to buy a t-shirt.  I imagine they'll be gone in a couple years and I want the hipster street cred when the shirts go extinct.

It's a terribly stupid name, but at least it's in good company among other past Jacksonville sports teams with stupid names. They fit right in with the Tea Men, the Lizard Kings, the Hooters, and the JAM. At any rate I wish them well, it will be interesting to see how they do here.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

The Tea Men were owned by Lipton Team prior to moving to JAX.  I still have a Team Men shirt from back in the day.

I am for anything that brings people to the Arena. It is getting to be almost year round sports at the Arena.

What's wrong with having the launch party at Whiskey River?

After reading this, I'm kind of mixed on the name, really -
QuoteThe name was chosen to recall the bulldog while not being confused with the University of Georgia Bulldogs. The logo depicts a bulldog with a lacrosse stick in its mouth and a small anchor hanging from its collar in reference to Jacksonville's strong connections with the U.S. Navy.[

Ah, I'd have preferred bulldogs then. But I guess if most people make that association then it could work. I didn't.

^If they wanted the Navy connection they could have gone with something directly connected with the Navy. If they wanted "Bulldogs" they could have gone with "Bulldogs". Bullies is a stupid name, but not stupid enough to make me not wish them well.

Wow Jacksonville do we criticize everything? For a city that has nothing and wants everything, it amazes that when we do get something we Nick-Pick to death.

I think that everyone is in agreement that it's great to have another team/sports option at the arena; on the surface, however, it can be perceived that there is some level of irresponsibility in the choice of name - from a social standpoint and/or marketing level.  The Washington Bullets cease to exist for that very reason.  I'll never be classified as "sensitive" - call them the Murderers or Rapists for all I care - I just doubt it will help their cause, however.....It's just someting to talk about, really.  We bitch because we share a vested interest & civic pride - that's why this forum exists.  ;)

Yea man they cannot even get a game started without the criticism. And we wonder why people do not want to bring stuff here.
