On this list from Forbes of America's next boom towns, Austin is #1, Nashville is #3, and Orlando is #10.

I was looking at that list yesterday. They only showed the top 8 cities, but don't have the rest of the list even though they mention LA, DC, and NYC. I want to know where Jacksonville is.

Interesting, i love jacksonville no doubt, but how we beat out portland, denver and miami has me scratching my head. maybe because we are on the cusp of change were as those cities are very well established?

Yes. This study is mainly talking about cities that are on the cusp of change.

I can see how we could rank higher than Portland and Miami. They might be established but I don't think they have quite a sense of city pride (for lack of a better word) as people from J-ville

You know I never thought about it, but we do have alot pride about our city. And that is why we get so upset when people trash us. I know I have alot of pride. Even if they are speaking the truth, I go down fighting for duval. LOL

I hate to say it, but I almost feel like it's the opposite. It seems like Jacksonville has a massive inferiority complex, which is why we tend to overreact when people like Tony Kornheiser or Bill Simmons trash the city. On the plus side, for the first time since I've moved here, I truly feel like that is beginning to change. Between the 2010 Jaguars season, and the new mayor, and (I know, I know) the Town Center bringing high end shopping to the market, and the incredible success of the Friendship Fountain restoration project, and even the Courthouse (long since a symbol of our city's futility, at the very least it's going up), you really can sense a real feeling of optimism around town. I'm not sure if Jacksonville is destined for a boom in the next 5-10 years, but I do honestly believe that if we play our cards smartly, we could be in for a major boom in the next 10-20 years.

I do feel the same way.  Keep my fingers crossed

I think we are just very defensive. Kinda of like a child that gets bullied in school all the time. We always have our guard up. I know personally, when people say something negative about us and I get them straight, they say, " Gosh you sure do love your city dont you? " LOL But I agree. This past year and a half has been very encouraging. You can actual feel it in the air. Great things are in store for us.

We just have to keep on growing what's good and eliminating what's bad.

The boundary line is somewhere in Brooklyn.

Every metro area with more than 1 million residents is ranked on the Forbes list.  I read somewhere that the really big cities, like NY, Boston, etc, are at or near the bottom of the list.

I couldn't find the complete list anywhere, so I don't know where Jacksonville is.
