Doing a light cleanup this saturday(July 9th) at 9AM.  Hogans hasn't had much attention over the last few months and trash is starting to pile up again.  We have new leadership in place now... let's show them the community cares about Hogans Creek and is excited about the unique opportunity this gem downtown could present.

As always, just show up.  I'll have a box of latex gloves for anyone that needs them.  If you have waders or kayaks, those would be extremely helpful in accessing many of the problem spots.

See you all Saturday.

Was hoping we'd go back here soon. +

I would love to help again, but I will be out of town this weekend. It has been a while since I have been out there, so hopefully I can get involved in a future clean up.

hey theres a neighbiorhood clean up in springfield near hogans creek that day too
summer time is busy time you know!!

When is the neighborhood cleanup?  I lost Bill's(head of block captains) contact information.  I really want to coordinate these things.

Even if 5-10 people show up Saturday morning... it's still going to be a big help.  I walked the creek basin a week ago and it's not in great shape.

Cleanups are second Saturday of the month

Low tide around 11.  Good conditions.  Field, Props for putting this together. Is this around the Washington and Beaver area again? Looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Just a reminder... we'll be at the same location... corner of Beaver/Washington behind the fire station tomorrow morning at 9AM.  No need for special skills or equipment.  All that is needed is a positive attitude.

Officials: Don't eat certain fish from Hogans Creek, Long Branch Creek

Public health officials warned fishermen today not to eat some types of fish caught in Hogans Creek or Long Branch Creek in Jacksonville.

The warning said largemouth bass and striped mullet in Hogans Creek could be contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, a kind of pollution tied to oils and tars.

Bass and blue tilapia in Long Branch could be contaminated with dieldrin, a substance left from pesticide use, according to the notice issue by the Duval County Health Department.

Department spokesman Charles Griggs said last week that neither creek had pollution that represented an urgent hazard, but that long-term fish consumption could increase some health risks.

The Health Department has scheduled meetings to discuss the findings with residents Thursday, July 14 at 2 p.m. at Prince Community Resource Center, 3315 N. Liberty St. and at 6 p.m. at the Robert F. Kennedy Community Center, 1133 Ionia St.

The department asked people with questions to phone (877) 798-2772.

In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Yes, I posted that nearly a week ago.

Please don't scare people off from doing good for their community.  You are perfectly safe to be near the creek bed and even paddle the creek.  The main contamination problem with Hogans right now is fecal matter.

If you donate a few hours of your time tomorrow with us, you will not grow a third eye.  :)

I would love to join in, but I have youth baseball clinic at the beach that morning at 10am-12:30pm.  How much of the fecal matter is from the homeless camps using the creek as their toilet?

Also I would like to be part of the Exchange Island paddle.
