My lord at the negativity...isn't that at least part of the problem with this city to begin with? The negativity of its citizens...

"Where Florida Begins" isn't as bad as its made to be. Not only is it a geographic nod to the city being a "gateway" to Florida, it's also a nod to us being the First Coast or where Florida got its start, and it's a nod to the "real Florida/what Florida is all about" ...etc. It has several different meanings, you just have to read in to it a little and it actually fits us perfectly.

I always kind of liked "Where Florida Begins". Better than the "Bold New City of the South" anyway. I guess you can't please everyone.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

I believe Lake City has been the "Gateway to Florida" since long before Jacksonville was decided as "Where Florida Begins."

I prefer Bold New City, always have.

How about, "Jacksonville!  We've got TWO Interstates."

Really?  Wasn't Gateway Shopping Center (predecessor to Gateway Mall) named that in the '60s because Jacksonville was the gateway to Florida?  That's what my mommy told me back then.

Perhaps a learned response, considering the long history of damaging what we promote coupled with dashed appropriate 'potential'.

How about "Florida for Real"  ??

Tallahassee was using the similar "Florida with a Southern Accent."  I don't know if it still does.
