Jacksonville/Duval police blotter?

There was an incident in my neighborhood yesterday involving a possible shooting, bad guys with guns fleeing through our neighborhood, K-9 unit and police chopper that didn't make the news. Looking for information I Googled ' Duval County police blotter' - zip, nada. I can pull up info for Nassau, St. Johns and Flagler but not Duval. Is there a trick code word or something I'm missing? Thanks.

JSO is one of the few jurisdictions that doesn't seem to make incident reports and booking photos available on line.  They are public record, but you have to go to your nearest sub-station to get them.

How you inquire about an incident without and incident report number is a mystery.

I've inadvertently stumbled upon two manhunts in the past couple of months.  The first was a few months ago in the St. Nicholas neighborhood just west of Bishop Kenny.  Chopper in the air & close to 20 squad cars on the ground.  There were numerous stories about the school being locked down, but nothing about the perp.  The second was Sunday afternoon in the Jax Golf & CC area.  Neighbors said it had to do with a shoplifting at the Beach/Hodges Wal-Mart, but would the cops bring out a chopper for a shoplifter?

I'd be interested to find out the details for both incidents.

Imagine being that kid who pocketed a Snickers bar and ran, only to find 20 squad cars and a chopper bearing down on him :)

You'd hope though that the police wouldn't deploy a chopper for something as trivial as a shoplifter at Wal-Mart.

In riverside, it seems like manhunts are "party time". Everyone comes out on their porch with a beer. Easiest way for a perp to evade would be just to grab an empty can off the side of the road, stand somewhere innocuous and pretend to be normal.

R L, You nailed it. Kinda like the old block parties, a social event with some new faces that could have been who knows?

Still I'm curious about JSO's policy here about keeping things like this quiet. Has it always been like this?

I saw a similar situation in Riverside a couple years ago when after hearing a chopper circling the neighborhood I went out to see what was going on. From 5 points to Riverside Memorial Park and as far south as Stockton there were 2 cops on every corner and others patrolling the grid. I asked one of the cops whats was going on and he told me they were looking for a juvenile that stole a bicycle.

Seemed a little fishy to me...

I realize I'm raising the dead by reviving this post, but I have the exact same question and would like to know if anyone has made any headway in finding any information on how to obtain ... well ... information.

My next door neighbor was robbed/carjacked at gunpoint on Saturday night in his own driveway with his wife and daughter in the car. It would be nice to be able to find information regarding the case. The car was a rental (from hertz) as they were getting ready to go on a trip. So I'm wondering if they have lojack on their cars. His wife's green-card was among the items that was in the car at the time.

Edit to add this:
I'm not one to criticize JSO too much. It's not a job that I want and I appreciate that there are those who want to do it. With that being said, the comment above that they would send a chopper out for a bike is extra sickening to me considering that when they get a call saying that someone was held at gunpoint they only sent one car, no lights or sirens took 15-20 minutes and he was basically there to write a report. I realize they can't do "much" but knowing what car it was, what direction it was headed I would think there could be just a little more.

JT,  Go to the sub-station in the Cedar Hills shopping center.  Give them the rough time and place of the robbery.  They should give you a copy of the report.  Sometimes they won't release it claiming that it is "part of an on-going investigation."

Make them give you the name of the detective to whom it has been assigned, call him or her, and ask for a copy with the sensitive information removed.  They are reluctant to do this and you have to insist and perhaps speak to a supervisor.

Most of the jurisdictions in Florida put arrest reports and mug shots on line, but JSO does not, claiming that they have too many.  Somehow this isn't a problem in Miami or Orlando.

JSO is rolling out a new crime statistics reporting method rather than the simple 1/2 mile circle around an address that they have now.

Thanks Dog Walker. I'll try to get over there at lunch. If not later when I get off. Either way I'll report back when I do.

3 guys were caught breaking in to a house at the end of South Shores Rd.  The accross the street neighbor watched the whole thing and was on the phone with police.  The cops showed up as the bad guys were driving out of the neighborhood.  Perps jumped out of their car (stolen) and scattered into the woods, one was caught quickly, the other two were found by the dogs a couple of hours later hiding in a garage.

This crew was suspected of a string of burglaries around San Marco, St Nick as well as on the other side of the river.  They were caught trying to break into another house on San Mateo I think a few days earlier but didn't get caught.  That's why they brought out so many cops.  My neighbor was home and saw it all.  He said it was pretty awesome.

Thankfully since this incident break-ins around the neighborhood have seemed to go down a lot.
