Hogan campaign questions?

Hey folks,

I'm a centrist voter who tends to vote Republican, but I've never been a Mike Hogan fan, and was quick to jump to the Brown camp. My decision has been reinforced by the desperate gasps of the Hogan campaign trying to pin some ridiculous claims on Brown.

I've seen a letter circulated by Republicans claiming that if you elect Alvin; Corrine Brown and Al Gore will run the city. Does anyone know what other cities Al Gore and Corrine Brown are now running? Why would they pick Jacksonville?

Republicans are also saying that you need to vote for Hogan in this race because in 2012, a Republican in City Hall will keep Obama from getting reelected in 2012. Are we all aware that the guy in City Hall has no power on how the rest of us vote next year? Jeb Bush barely delivered Florida for his brother in 2000, and yet Brown is expected to deliver Jacksonville for Obama, a guy he doesn't associate himself with and, politically, doesn't really agree with? Does anyone know of other cities where they have thrown the next four years away for fear of the following year's Presidential election?

This all seems insane to me, but maybe I'm just the lone Roddy Piper in They Live, and you all need to get your special sunglasses.

Jimmy

The Hogan camp - not Mr. hogan himself - is in a destructive tailspin. I have seen the most outrageous claims online today about Mr. Brown, his character, and the kind of Mayor he would be.

They are worried. And I hope justifiably so.  The harder they attack, the better I feel about Mr. Brown's chances on Tuesday. Almost there...

Timkin

exactly.  the desperate attacks are a big turnoff , IMO..  I stated on FB in a debate, that I feel he is incompetent to do the job as mayor, and I stand by my position.  Under his direction, Jacksonville, particularly downtown will suffer immensely.

I find it interesting that one of his supporters at one time posted that they would never endorse him.... Never is evidently a very long time .

I sincerely hope that Alvin wins this race and hope that I will not regret my choice of voting for him as Mayor. In my heart, I feel he is the better , by far, of the two choices.

I too am a registered Republican who has almost always voted Republican - but won't be next week.

Not knowing who will be the Republican nominee for President in 2012, I'm not sure having Obama reelected in 2012 would be a bad thing.  The guy is growing on me.

But, I think that Rick Scott's extremely low approval rating will have more to do with delivering Florida to Obama than anything else.  My observation has been that a very unpopular local or state politician can do more for the opposition than a popular local or state politician can do for the same team.

I have actually heard there really isn't a close bond between Alvin Brown and Corrine, maybe even a cold relationship. Hogan is getting really desperate and it is showing. I hope people can look beyound his negative ads. I am a registered Republican who always votes with the GOP, but like Doug said not next week!

well considering he ran against her in 1994, that is probably true

To wit - this is an email I just received from a Republican email chain I'm on. Ridiculous. Pure, nonsensical paranoia.

"This is REALLY scary.

The enemy is at the gates, Jacksonville.  Alvin Brown may be a good guy or not, but he came from out of nowhere in this mayoral race and suddenly he has more money to spend on his campaign than anyone can account for.  Sound familiar?  He also has established permanent Jacksonville offices for his primary supporters:  Move-on.org and Organizing for America (aka ACORN) and he has denounced Tea Party supporters.
Brown is most certainly being financed and used by the Obama forces as a local pawn to establish a beach head in Florida for Obama's 2012 re-election run.
On May 17th, they must be thrown back at the beach!
If you care about the community you live in- read this- watch the video- and most importantly- VOTE this month. The enemy is at our gate. They are climbing over our walls. The only way we can take back our country is to start right here at home (jacksonville). The Obama liberals from Chicago and D.C. are here in town and paying people on the north side of jacksonville to vote for alvin brown for mayor so he (obama) can have Duval co. in his grip. The ONLY way we can stop this is for ALL of us to go vote for Mike Hogan for mayor. PLEASE do your part and go vote- thanks- Johnny Lance

In the movie, Poltergeist, a sweet family made up of a hard working dad, a stay at home mom and three cute children are infiltrated by evil spirits in their home.
They fight to keep the evil out of their home.  They do all they can to protect their children.  At the end of the movie, it is revealed that their neighborhood was developed on top of a cemetery by a crooked, deceitful and opportunistic developer.  The family leaves town and the movie ends with a neighborhood in total destruction.
Yesterday I was in downtown Jacksonville for a meeting.  As I sat at a red light, I noticed a bumper sticker with Alvin Brown for Mayor on it.  Then something else caught my eye â€" the car had a New Jersey license plate.  The words, “they’re here”rang in my head.
Last week we received a call from a friend in DC who works on the Hill.  The caller said, “Jacksonville was mentioned the other day at a meeting I attended.  It appears Organizing for America (OFA) and MoveOn.org are in Jacksonville.  They are there to help Alvin Brown get elected so Obama can take Florida.”
The call came just as we were getting ready for our 3rd Annual Tax Day Rally.  We listened and put it out of our minds for the time being.  We had a rally to throw and we would deal with that issue afterwards.  The issue would not wait and it showed up at the Rally.
A handful of nasty, mean-spirited and foul-mouthed young people showed up at our Rally.  They stood behind the stage with their pre-made signs, their hats shoved to the side of their heads, texting on their cell phones, and screaming at the Governor as he gave his speech.  You can see some of the pictures at http://tinyurl.com/3o4qkw5
Other tax day rallies across this nation were infiltrated by the likes of these too.  The videos and postings of these infiltrators are so crude and unbelievable that you can’t even imagine this is America.  You must know what we are up against so please watch this video from Oregon Tea Party Rally and then take a shower afterwards and say a prayer for our great nation -- http://tinyurl.com/3mzxh5h
Last night we heard Mike Hogan speak at a meeting.  He has been informed that it is true â€" the Obama machine is in town.  They have been here for weeks signing people up to vote on the Northwest side of Jacksonville.  They are everywhere and they are drumming up support for Alvin Brown.  They are paying people to go to the polls.  They are paying people to show up at rallies and scream nasty words.  They are paying people to do whatever they tell them to do â€" that’s the Chicago way.
Do you believe Obama cares about Jacksonville?  Do you believe he has a vested interest in the health of our city?  Do you really believe he is here to help Alvin Brown?
The truth is this â€" the Obama machine is here for Obama.  They do not care about Jacksonville.  They do not care about the health of our city.  They do not care about Alvin Brown and only care about what he can do for them.
In order to win his second term as President, he must take Florida.  In order to take Florida, he must win Duval County.  If they can get Alvin Brown in the Mayor’s seat, they will have a better chance of taking Duval County.
Our local Mayoral race is a pre-cursor for Obama 2012.   They’re here and they are not nice.
Are we going to let them get away with this?  Just like in the movie, the crooked, deceitful and opportunistic developer ruined a great neighborhood for his own selfish gain.  He didn’t care about the people and he didn’t care about doing the right thing.  He cared about himself and only himself.  Because of his selfish ambitions, the neighborhood was destroyed.  No one won and neither will our city if we allow this to happen.
This is no movie.  This is real stuff, people.  This is what we have been fighting against in DC and now “they’re here.”  Will you fight for your city?  Will you do ALL you can to ensure Chicago politicians do not run or ruin our town?

"They're heeeeeere!"

I agree 100% with this email--I think we need to not only protect our children from being sucked into the other side via television sets, but also from scary clown dolls (probably liberals) that live under the bed coming to life, trees that swallow kids whole, and reanimated corpses popping up in our swimming pools.  That's the kind of wholesale deviltry we can surely expect if Alvin "Obama" Brown is elected mayor of Jacksonville.

Really?! Using the movie Poltergeist to scare people into voting for Hogan!?
WTF!?!

The threat to Hogan isn't from the Northwest side of Jacksonville, it's from the Southwest side.

I attended a fundraiser for Alvin Brown upstairs at Blue Fish last night, and then a few of us walked up and down St. Johns Avenue with Alvin Brown and Tommy Hazouri.

Alvin was very warmly received by most of the patrons of the restaurants and walk-in ice cream shops there, and he also made sure to shake hands with the waitstaff and the other service workers that he saw.

Alvin is going to win because he is comfortable getting out and talking with all kinds of  people.

Hogan is going to lose because he is hiding out with his close friends.

I have always considered myself to be "conservative" but this makes me want to puke.

It is obvious this is not out of either official campaign. There are extremists on on both sides, very passionate for their candidates who do things outside of the official campaign program. Anyone who gets the paper saw the Duval Citizens of Concerned Taxpayers program on who they are recommending for voting. (Mine was just before the Sports Section), so I am sure we will get more and more stuff before the big day!

LOL, Hogan won District 14H by a 3-2 ratio last election, which the shops encompass. Must have been people from Southwest Jacksonville who found a parking spot in Blue Fish's lot and then went to Mojo #4 just to piss Frank off!  :P

I sure hope you're right. I've brushed arms with him EVERYWHERE in Riverside/Avondale, even had the opportunity to sit down and really ask him questions personally. From Blue Fish, and the ice cream parlor, like you said, to Burro Bar downtown, to a concert at TSI, to walking my dog in Memorial Park. The man is everywhere. And he's patient and friendly and funny.

Please, sweet baby election gods in the sky, let this be a factor in his victory.
