Yes, I've decided to do it!

Yes, I'm starting a paper. It will be the size of Parade magazine, tabloid....
Names...
The Jacksonville Ombudsman
(Jax is ignorant, and most people don't know what an ombudsman is)
The Town Cryer
The Looking Glass
The Focused Eye

what do ya think?
any ideas on a name?

Want to place an ad?
I'm working on costs now, very reasonable...
Target first run is 10,000 copies, mostly a downtown distribution...
Price of an ad will be near $100 1/6 th page I think. I'm trying for 25% ads, and that will be the max it ever becomes, and no commercial selling of full page ads. Max size of an ad might be 1/3 or 1/2 of any given page.

I'm looking for contribuiting writers, and opposing views will always be welcome, not ignored or censored.

Back in the 60s there was an "underground" - that's what they called what are now called "alternative" - newspaper called Both Sides Now.

Anybody else admit to being old enough to remember it?

Or would that be a case of "If you remember the 60s, you didn't live the 60s"?

Some still hang on... Memories?

The Berkley Barb
Los Angeles Free Press
East Village Other
Smokin Sunshine?

ffffffffffffffffffffffT Ahh, Hey man? Hey! Now what were we talking about now? Ummm!
Never once half as think as you stoned I were!

But you had to know this would draw me out! Hee hee!

Hmmm, I actually remember that name. I was a little too young to be a real hippie.LOL
The family used to cruise by 14th & Peachtree to look at all the hippies on the way to Grandpa's house near Grant Park.

What sort of "paper" will you try to strive to be?
Springfield since 1998

Skot David Wilson

In Monmouth County on the Jersey Shore I was on The Flowering Tree... kinda like Mother Earth News meets Folio meets The Village Voice (ahhh the Village Voice, and the Aquarian)
But I've got the name...
The Ombudsman
since Jacksonville needs one so badly....
It will cost me less then $400 to print over 10,000 copies.
I will have eight pages for the first run, and focus on positive approaches to solve crappy issues and problems.
25% of the paper needs to be ads to cover costs, so a business card will be $35, 1/8 th page is $50, and 1/4 page is $95. No ads will be bigger than 1/4 page, because this is to pay for making the paper, not to be an advertisement with a few articles.
Contributers are welcome, and so are letters to the editor. The theme of the first issue will be tutoring/mentoring/volunteering reduce crime and help kids.
Anyone want in?

:)  I was wondering what "Ombudsman" means but I Googled it.

From Wikipedia....

For the Canadian television series, see Ombudsman (TV series).

An ombudsman (English plural: ombudsmans or ombudsmen) is an official, usually (but not always) appointed by the government or by parliament, who is charged with representing the interests of the public by investigating and addressing complaints reported by individual citizens. In some jurisdictions, the Ombudsman is referred to, at least officially, as the 'Parliamentary Commissioner' (e.g., the West Australian state Ombudsman). The word ombudsman and its specific meaning, Swedish in origin, have since been adopted in to English as well as other languages, and ombudsmen have been instituted by other governments and organizations such as the European Union.

An ombudsman need not be appointed by government; they may work for a corporation, a newspaper, an NGO, or even for the general public. In some countries, an Inspector General may be the same as or have overlapping duties with a government-appointed ombudsman.

Now that you know, I think the idea fits....  An ombudsman is needed in this town...
must I explain why?
Rushing to press, I want to get a paper out before next council meeting..
Might just be one sheet, four pages and only a few thousand copies, but it would be a starting point.
Now accepting articles....

First issue being published. I only have four pages done, but I want it out for this council meeting to cover the Boselli/Lee thing.
Theme is that issue, any council agenda items, and using mentoring, tutoring and volunteering to reduce crime, as well as making homes stable for kids.
