Duval County Schools:  where poor black children are thrown under the bus?  Is that what we want to be known for?

I worked for a tutoring company for a time and spent a lot of time at North Shore. To say these kids have been thrown under the bus is being disingenuous. Every kid who goes to that school is eligible for free one on one tutoring after school, including in home tutoring.  After they failed the FCAT two years in a row they cleaned house and started anew.
I support meaningless jingoistic cliches

My niece and nephew was going there and those children are TERRIABLE! My niece was failing. My mom pulled her out and placed in her in Long Branch and now she is passing.

Yes, but these things are not working for whatever reason.  It is up to Duval County to figure out a way to educate its children.

As I have stated before, growing up a minority and attending a inner city high school, I know what the problem is. It starts at home. Unfortunately, a large percentage of minority parents use the school system as a baby sitter. They do not care if they children learn or graduate high school. My parents constantly pushed me all the way to the end. I was one of the fortunate ones. You will encounter some children who have the desire to learn and succeed without the influence at home, but sadly most inner city children become a product of their environment.
