Protecting History In General

You've seen what I've posted on Fire Station Five and the Annie Lytle school. (if not, http://savestationfive.blogspot.com and http://savejaxhistory.blogspot.com )
It seems that developers and big money have much of city council and the mayor right in their pocket. They support each other, and support each other blindly. Where do you think their loyality is? What do you think happens to history if it is in the way of potential profit?
What needs to become history is that practice, and the only way it will ever happen is if we repeat history and go against The Crown.
The Crown is the kingdom created by wealth in America. They lie, cheat, steal, and get away with it because they have friends or buy their way out. The rich protect the rich, and they are the ones in power.
Harry turns a blind eye to John so often I think we should get him a seeing eye dog.
And the news stations in town have no conscience. They are whores, that will bend to the will of city hall and money before actually doing any real reporting. Some are better than others, but they all play the game.
I think TV4 is the worst. Might as well be a direct line to Peyton's office.
The only way we will ever protect history in Jacksonville is to get strong and unite with other concerned people who fight for other causes, supporting them and counting upon them.
Bet they eventually go after Station 4 and all the other at risk sites around town. It is because we have such a poorly educated society. What do you expect when 4 out of 10 kids who are like 19,20,21 don't have a diploma?
Everything, history, education, environment, transportation..... are all tied together.
So if you want to protect history, think carefully of how you can get heard and do something that matters.

Nice Points. Ever consider why the "3Rd World" is passing us by? Check out Colombia, as an example...
Easy for the DOE to label the country as 3Rd World because it's free and mandatory Education System allows students to leave at 8Th Grade. But a deeper dive into our US State Department Manual on Colombia states:

A Colombian Public High School Education

transfers equal to:

A 2 Year AA Degree in a US School

Duh? It says more but I can't read it... Big words mess with my drug crazed Gringo Head!! ¿Qué sabe usted? ¿Nada?  ¿Nada?

Well put, Skot....

Most of my "fight" has been standing up against the demolition of School Four....which at present I still feel is in imminent danger.

I would welcome input and suggestions as to how I can further the fight. Ive contacted every preservation organization I can think of in the US to alert them to this situation, continuous letters to city council, attended LUZ meetings when work schedules allow, and on all the Jacksonville forums im involved with, kept everyone as up to speed with my findings as I can.

it was suggested to complain to the city about the various issues w the Schools condition, but I am afraid to go down that road because I think that only fuels the ammunition they are seeking to tear it down.

Your efforts , Skot are wonderful and commendable.  I would be happy to assist in any way I possibly can. I would like to point out that after attempting to contact all the TV stations in Jacksonville, that  Channel 4 was THE ONLY Newstation at the time , that took the interest and initiative to do a Story on Public School Four (see the multimedia area of jaxoutloud.com) . I  appreciate that effort.

I would like to see coalition building... where environmentalists, tax watchers, historic preservationists, and other "groups" all get together and support each other, but damn if people aren't lazy...
It is uphill... me working on Station Five and you on PS#4, and if we can just get some political power I think things can change...
One of the many reasons I'm running for city council, because it would give me a great soap box to fight for what is right on many levels....
If 100 people in Jax would take a half hour twice a month to work on local issues things might actually change...
It is why I'm pissed at the JaxOutLoud crowd, because they say one thing and do another, and are self-righteous but I don't see them on the frontline of any real fights.... they just complain in their little isolated web world.
Change takes real effort and work, and comes at a cost, but so does anything worth anything....
You have my email, and my number is 781-9473 (email at skotstar@yahoo.com)
We can keep each other updated.....

I agree Skot.  Alot of that probably comes from individual Schedules.

I began a cleanup effort to the right of way on the Property of PS 4 this morning.  Linda Bremer joined me,and we got quite a bit done. Obviously alot to do , as allowed, but made some progress and hauled alot of litter away from there today =)
