Planned Parenthood Florida Insider Update on Uterus-Gate

While the session continues this week with attacks on women’s health, women’s reproductive health care has become front page news on both a state and national level.  Perhaps you’ve heard about “uterus-gate”?

Last week Pro-Choice Champion, Rep. Scott Randolph used the word “uterus” on the house floor and was promptly admonished by the Speaker of the House, Dean Cannon. Randolph’s comment: "Members it’s easy to practice an ideology of convenience. If my wife incorporated her uterus, you all would say hands off.” Rep. Randolph was articulating that the legislature has been so busy trying to de-regulate business while at the same time working to pass no less than 18 anti-choice bills regulating women's reproductive health. 

Since then, Rep. Randolph and the “uterus” have made state and national news(check out our Newsclips of the Week to learn more).  “Uterus” even has its own facebook page with more than 3,000 followers, and pink “Uterus” pins have become a fashion statement in the halls of the capitol, where women and men, Republican and Democrats alike are sporting the latest fad.  You can order your very own “Utuerus” pin as well!

Thankfully, all this attention has brought awareness of the fact that at the same time the Speaker is banning the use of the word “uterus”, he and others are working hard to legislate a woman's uterus.

This week SB 1744 â€" mandating women have an ultrasound and hear a description of the sonogram passed out of the Senate Health Regulation Committee by 7-5 vote.  Republican Senators Bennett, Jones and Latvala joined Democratic Senators Ring and Sobel in voting against.  However, two other bills slated to be heard in the same committee were Temporarily Postponed (TP’d). 

SB 1748 â€" a bill to shut down abortion providers in the state was TP’d for the second week in a row, while SB 1770 â€" making it harder for teens to obtain a judicial bypass through the Parental Notice of Abortion Act was also TP’d.  Both are slated to be heard next Tuesday in committee. 

With the whole uterus debacle, it seems the anti-choice bills are slowing down, but we need to keep pressure on legislators to stop the attack on women’s health.  On Tuesday, more than 150 Planned Parenthood supporters will be in the halls of the legislature to tell Members “Enough is enough!”

Even if you aren’t able to attend “Women’s Health Matters” day, you can still take action: call your Senators and Representatives and urge them to stop the attack on women’s health.  Or give the Speaker’s office a call (850) 488-2742 and tell him “if he can’t bear to hear or say the word ‘uterus’ he has no business legislating it.”

The vast majority of Florida governors have been Dems Faye.  Are you complaining about the first 100 years of democrat gerrymandering or just the last 10 of republican...

All you have to do Faye is figure out how to convince dem voters to put down their iphone for 15 minutes and show up to vote.  Much simpler than than dreaming up conspiracies...

Forgive me, but allow me to say...

The Women's Health support is not only limited to women, but men also. Women has to carry the extra "baggage" while the men biologically has much lesser baggage or none on their bodies. Men should extend their obligation for morally and physically supporting their female companions during the course of their active "baggage".

It is "sinful" to alter the outcome of the entire human race. Basically, everyone should be concerned about the future children / growth of the human race. This could be perceived as a backlash onto its own merit. So, listen up government, do not fucking ever EVER jinx the personal liberty and life of every citizens.

Your right Faye... we should have had our first female Governor.  Rick Scott was easily the worst possible candidate on earth or at least Florida.  Alex Sink should have won... handily. 

But she did not lose because of Tea Partiers. 

She did not lose due to gerrymandering or conspiracy.

No Stephen... I do not expect you to read the entire thread... but Faye happened to bemoan how underrepresented democrats were in the Florida legislature.  She insists gerrymandering... I contend voter apathy.  She then rambled over to how close Alex Sink came to being Governor... with which I agreed.  I simply disagree as to WHY Alex Sink is not our governor.  I stand by that reason.

Actually... Democrat voter apathy is the correct answer.  They have a 700k advantage in registered voters with nearly 2 million staying home and not voting for Ms. Sink.  She lost for the same reason Ms Moran lost.  Democrat voter apathy.  Let us hope the trend does not continue...
