is that the same NC whose legislature is now threatening to veto any stimulus spending for high speed rail?

Even if they're all lunatics, what if they threw away this deal looking for 23 lane freeways, it doesn't change a thing CSX - Ward - NCDOT said, signed or agreed to.

Florida could have/had the same type of agreement for 110 mph running on CSX-FEC-NS, but Florida feigns being shafted by CSX and WARD, the media grabs the sound bytes and "OMG guess we'll just have to build it down the middle of the FREEway after all." I don't blame WARD or CSX, I blame the State of Florida which has it's collective head so far up the nether regions of Walt Disney Company and I-Drive, that they are incapable of an objective study. The whole (INSERT: high-pitched plaintive or distressed cries and whining sounds) "We just can't use the "old" railroads, we want new railroads, we want a train like they have in Paris..." is 100% smoke and mirrors.

Anyone old enough to remember Walt Disney's Economic Prototype Community of Tomorrow model that sat at Disneyland in California, for years and years, will recall the cool little HSR trains jetting down the FREEway. Well we never got that envisioned city, but we sure as hell got it's playground. Now shazam they expect us to believe that the similarities between the "new age" train and Walt Disney's nightmare is purely coincidence. Let's all wring our hands together now that our HSR plan was diverted to the freeway from mean old CSX... then got shot to hell by dead-eye Scott. Boo Hoo!
