I could only imagine the uproar this would cause here in Jax...

QuoteAd agency Colle + McVoy has launched an innovative campaign for Caribou Coffee’s new hot breakfast sandwiches. They have installed bus shelters in Minneapolis that not only look like ovens but are also equipped with real heaters to keep the waiting commuters warm in this cold weather.

Excellent campaign that perfectly complements their new “Hot ‘n Wholesome” menu.

And though I long to embrace, I will not replace my priorities: humour, opinion, a sense of compassion, creativity and a distaste for fashion.

very cool. But as long as we have Bill Brintons running around this would not happen here!

I saw that article somplace this morning and thought two things:

1) This is really cool! What an innovative way to both advertise and provide shelter to bus riders!

2) This would NEVER go over in Jacksonville!

You're not kidding.

TU Headline: "City now providing bums with free heat."

"City allowing businesses to advertise, shelter would-be bus riders from rain"

And the commentary: "Can't those people provide their own umbrellas and wear coats??"

I have a way for JTA to afford bus shelters for every stop.

Reduce the number of bus stops to one every 4 miles on any route. If the school board can deny bus rides to children who live less than 2 miles from a school, thereby forcing them to either walk or find other transportation, then those who ride public transportation can do the same. Sure would help the obesity problem for some folks. If the school bus distance is actually less than what I recall reading, then adjust the figures to be fair.

What an awesome execution of a terrific idea.  I was always thankful that Chicago required the train stations to provide heat from Nov 1 - Mar 31.  Sadly, people forget how cold it gets here in Jacksonville and a heater would be nice when you are waiting almost an hour for a connection at Rosa Parks.  At least with the bus stops you aren't usually waiting out of doors that long.

When was the last time you took a bus in this city?  There aren't bus stops on every corner by any stretch of the imagination.  I already walk a half-mile to the only bus stop near me.  Try that carrying $100 worth of groceries.

It's tongue in cheek, doncha know? JTA cries poor mouth, unable to fund the smallest shelters for the number of stops. School Board decides to cry poor mouth too. Can't afford to pick up the kids so let's set a "reasonable" walking distance for the little ones. Doesn't matter if it's o-dark thirty - make em walk, even if the school bus route passes right by their house.

I didn't grow up here in Jacksonville but I'm very familiar with riding the bus or shanks mare when the bus didn't go your way or you missed your connection.

And, $100 worth of groceries?? Piece o' cake. That's about 1/2 of a cloth Publix bag, right?  ;D

This is awesome ;D
But as far as I'm concerned JTA has no creativity or innovation what-so-ever.

I once saw this picture of a bus shelter that had the roof extended over to the edge of the side walk so that way if it is raining/snowing, you will not get wet trying to get on the bus. The roof also had solar panels on it. Now that is innovation!
