NYC Dining Recommendations

Going to Restaurant Week in NYC at the end of Jan. Anyone have any recommendations on spots to hit up? They don't have to necessarily participate in restaurant week... street vendors, delis, etc.

You are in luck! The weekly New York magazine "Where to Eat" issue has been published. You can get a copy at Barnes and Nobles. Like I said its a weekly so it won't be on the magazine rack for long. It is packed with recommendations and raves of whats whats at this minute in NYC. I don't find it trendy or anything about those Food Network ....
Anytime I have eaten at one of the suggested restaurants it is spot on. They also give you an idea about what you are going to be paying. I have been pleasantly surprised that I never spend too much money on food in NYC.

My two recommendations: My wife and I visited a place called Bleecker St Pizza the last time we were in NYC, and the pizza was excellent. (There's enough crappy pizza in NYC that it's a real crapshoot if you just pick someplace at random.) Also, there's a guy serving gyros on Wall Street, near the big bull statue, that are excellent. Other than that, my main advice is stay away from the places in Times Square. Also, there is no good coffee in NYC, unless you find a boutique-type of place that specializes in it.

Also if you are looking for loose leaf tea, we stumbled upon a little shop called McNulty's that has been there for over a hundred years. A great little place with extremely helpful and knowledgable employees.

White Castle (if you like Krystals) Staten Island location by the beach is good. Be sure to wear hard soled shoes if you stray onto the beach, the spent condoms and hypodermic needles are everywhere.

It's not even expensive. Best all around restaurant in NYC, if you're into food and service over "being seen."

Cafeteria in Chelsea is awesome. The GF dragged me there when we went up for a wedding. Best breakfast everrrrrr. Not expensive at all, great atmosphere for such a little place.

Fette Sau BBQ in Williamsburg (an easy subway ride from midtown) and Becco becco-nyc.com) in the theater district for fantastic and affordable set price Italian and bottles of wine under $25

If youâ€™re looking for something a little different, check out Il Vagabondo on 62nd Street. It is a pretty good Italian restaurant with an indoor bocce ball court alongside several tables.

Someone told me Shake Shack was New York's answer to In 'N Out. You don't know how many times I've been fooled with "... just as good as In N Out" before. But nevertheless SS is on my list.
Geeze, now I'm craving an Astro Burger right now.

Everyone and their mother has been recommending momofuku places... guess that's the latest trend going on now.

I'm more concerned about quality than flash and trends.
