Dog Walker

Trout River, Cedar River, Pottsburg Creek, Banks of the St. Johns, Guana, Intracoastal Waterway....they are everywhere.  In the spring you can walk out on your favorite golf course with a light and find little ones in the water hazards.
When all else fails hug the dog.

Just dig a hole in Florida and a gator will move in.  The newly built South Campus of FJC (now FSCJ) was teaching canoeing on their lake out front when they noticed gators had moved in.  That subdivision off Kernan?  Was it Ashley Woods?  There's a "nature preserve" a/k/a swamp that backs up to homes there. You can bet there are gators, and one moved into the lake on Soaring Flight there that I know of.  A company I used to work for had to have a gator removed from a retention pond at apartments near Regency when northerners who didn't know better started feeding it and we became concerned about babies and pets.  Coming up to Clark's Fish Camp in a 16' boat, we passed a dead gator as long as the boat.  What could be more appropriate for Florida than Gator Bowl?

I remember a Gator off Lem Turner when I was a kid that was in the street dead a big one. I never played in that river again.

I thought that Progressive became the sponsor of the Gator Bowl very recently?

Just listen for the young ones croaking...you can tell it's NOT a frog. "Lighting Up" a bunch of reflective Red eyes is easy in most ponds and lake edges..a Q-Beam type spot light works best, and their eyes really do flash back at you.
Do not let "Precious" out of your sight! especially in those Ponte Vedra homes where the grass disappears into the pond edge.
Kinda like a 360 degree reptile boat ramp. :o

I used to work for a lake managment company here in town. Our job was to keep our client's lakes (retention ponds) free of algae and invasive aquatic plants. I can tell you with complete confidence that every subdivision, shopping mall, church or school with a retention pond will have a gator, an otter and maybe some nutria if you are lucky. I remember an aprtment complex off of Southside that had some kind of weird bird that looked like a freakin' DoDo. There are lots of strange animals about in our waterways. So anyway, Jacksonville is the gateway to Florida. Alligators mean Florida to a lot of visitors and they usually don't discern North Florida from South or Central Florida. This has nothing to do with UofF.

Back when the St John's was so polluted, they thought about using the new name "Toilet Bowl". The official sponsor was going to be Ty-D-Bol deodorizers, but some felt that idea never really got fully flushed out.

The other option was going to be the "Homeless Bowl" where it was going to be sponsored by Campbell's Soup since they supply all of the soup kitchens here in Jacksonville.

At one point they also considered the "Google Bowl", but they discovered that when the contracts were sent to the State's Attorney for review, they couldn't seem to keep the records very long as they kept getting accidentally destroyed.

Of course it could be called the "Skyway Bowl", but no one wanted to go because they didn't think the game would end up going anywhere and gave up.

And the beat goes on......

I am surprised that nobody has mentioned the Baptist Bowl!  Never to be played on a Sunday and completely booze-free!

Give it a rest!  Can we keep at least one tradition in this town.  Or do we have to destroy them all, just like our downtown building stock?

Jacksonville: the city that keeps trying to rebuild the past we never had!

How about we just keep our past and build upon it?  Or is that to much to ask?
