I like the pic of the front of the courthouse and right smack in the middle of the main entrance is the mast arm traffic signal....i dont know its just funny.

That's a prime example of possible lack of coordination between different departments (if the mast arm has been there since before the Delaney years then I'm off base).  There's been so much discussion on the actual courthouse that no thought has been put into its integration with the surrounding area.  When coordination is weak, you end up with a variety of things like that.  In the event that this mast arm is replaced in the next two years, I wonder how much money would have been spent on it and it's replacement?

I still can't believe we are actually built that ridiculous monstrosity of a courthouse. $400mm for a county courthouse.

Pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffftttt

GET OVER IT!!

Why? Forget about it, so we can be destined to repeat epic blunders like this en perpetuity?

well continuing to bitch, moan, complain, or whatever has gotten old with the courthouse, and that goes at everyone.

Hello,

My name is Matthew Clark and I am working on the marketing for the future development of the Park View Inn. "Park View Pavilion" I should be able to update the public shortly as to the status of the development. I can say that things are moving forward in a positive direction.

As a resident of Downtown Jacksonville, I am excited to be a part of the project and look forward to making the people of Downtown and Springfield proud.

For leasing information please feel free to shoot me an email.

What, this is not a suburban construction thread of any type, or a thread about the continuing improvement of Jax's highway system?

Go to google earth and you'll see the mast arm in front of a vacant field in their view from the street. You are off base. Wait at least till they are finished to complain about the finished product.

tufsu1

yes...the signal is at Adams....the open space (maybe eventually plaza) in front of the courthouse goes from Adams to Monroe

fsujax

you are right. The signal has always been there. It is just funny to me it happens to be block the view shed of the main entrance. It will probably be removed and replaced with a signal on the side of the block, like along Laura St.

Please re-read what I actually wrote.

That's a prime example of possible lack of coordination between different departments (if the mast arm has been there since before the Delaney years then I'm off base).

You didn't have to wait for the Main Street pocket park to be completed before knowing it was going to be a vagrant attractor.

Google Earth was around when Delaney proposed the courthouse and it certainly didn't have street view before the buildings on that site were demolished (well after the original proposal), making your point totally invalid.

With that said, you don't have to know how to solve a rubik's cube before realizing that what is being constructed doesn't interact well with the surrounding area.  Blank walls on multiple blocks clearly illustrate that significant dead space (something you should avoid in a DT area) will be present.  Let's just hope we can do something well with the space in front of the courthouse to reduce the damage.

They're butchering the building at Kings Ave and Atlantic.  Putting siding right over the old facade.  There are zero windows on Atlantic.  A total blank wall.  Who allowed this?? This building is awful.

Saw it the other day...  could be a lot better.  BUT it can't be any worse looking than it was before, and in a few years that building will be swollowed up by I95.

It's an improvement over before, but a far cry from how it used to look and a far cry from its potential.  That whole block and farther to the west could be developed into retail with frontage on Atlantic.  The Overland Bridge project will be one of the worst things to EVER happen to The Southbank, San Marco, and St Nicholas.
