Best desset, Biscotti's?! Are you guys serious....

The don't even MAKE their own dessert. Not...a...single...one....

Pfui! Disingenuous at best.

But they own the bakery that does.

....and 50 % of the time they are out of carrot cake. They sold a whole cake right out of the display Friday night to someone pleading for it for a private party. How many customers heard "sorry, out of it" due to this one example.
I am serious,we go to Biscotti's less due to this, and I am a real fan, know the owners and all that.

Congrats to MJ for this mention.  Hmmm... what discussions here qualify as "infantile"?  ???

Here is one description for Folio itself::

They claim a subject, then
report on it, link to other media stories about it,
and discuss it in sometimes pugilistic,
sometimes infantile and sometimes insightful
manner. The content reflects the particular
obsessions of the Editors. It can often be the first media to report on
a matter. This too could pass in the face of focused 24/7 internet presence.

And for those who say 'who doesn't like Barnes and Noble, or Books-A-Million'....

OY, explore a little. We are very, and I mean verrrrry lucky to be in a city with a business like Chamblin's Bookmine. I mean I've been all over, and this is a world class independent bookstore. Try it!

Also Jerry's Bookshop. In the Town and Country Shopping Center. He's been there 20 years, I think, and must have a copy of every book ever published. Plus science fiction pulp magazines, old comics, posters... Not to mention Jerry himself who is sort of a 21st century version of Gandalf.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with chain stores, I like Target and PF Changs as much as the next person, I just think best of JAX should be local businesses you can't get in everyother town across America. I want to know about Metro Diner, not Chili's when I read these things. I am cool with Best of Jax National and Best of Jax local, but we certainly have local chinese places that are better and more authentic than PF Changs...

I understand what you are saying, uptowngirl, but what if the local is not the "best of"?  For instance, while I love Three Layers overall, the deserts, the atmosphere, the specialty drinks like fraps (which are mixes, by the way), I despise their regular coffee. To be the "best of" this year, would they not have needed to have a decent cup of regular coffee? While this is just my opinion, maybe enough others feel that a regular cup of coffee is important enough to vote for Starbucks as their coffee is better.  It should perhaps be a wake up call and places like Three Layers need to up their game, coffee wise.

Local independent businesses should be highlighted.  Not chains.
