Regarding these candidates views to mass transit, Mullaney is receptive to the concept but believes the city needs to get its financial house in order first.  If that can be done, he believes we can fund mass transit and a lot of other projects without raising taxes.  He's meet with us a few times at Three Layers to learn more about the concept and its role on economic development.  We meet with Audrey Moran at Chicago Pizza a few months back and she seems receptive to the concept as well.  However, the other week at City Kidz, it seemed like she believed taxes would have to be raised to fund such a major capital project.  Glorious Johnson is also a big fan of mass transit although I have not heard from her lately.  We've also pitched the concept to Bailey's people a few months back but I'm not sure of how they took it.

I would advise all candidates to follow the planning department's 2030 Mobility Plan process currently underway.  If successful, there will be additional money available for many of these projects that won't require the city to immediately raise taxes.  If I were a candidate, I'd wrap that whole plan into my campaign.
Glorious Johson has always been a big fan of mass transit. Ive found her support much stronger than the
"receptiveness" of Mullaney. Lakelanders comments concerning Audry Moran is a sound flip flop of the republicans, albeit tapping in to the majority of Jax voters. In no time, Mullaney will follow.

QuoteIve heard such and, again, its a bit of lip service to me. I only have the experience of past mayoral administrations. The republican ones hindered development, while the democrats move forward, in acted
Skyway.

Development of what?  River City Rennaisance and ESPECIALLY BJP were some awfully large programs.
80% of Jacksonville said that Jacksonville was going in the right direction when Delaney left office, btw.
development of fixed mass transit in Jax. Those 80% were opposed to jax fixed mass transit. So many that Mayor Godbold felt compelled to state his disappointment in Skyway.
Whatever, good luck to you all. My decision to support Glorious Johnson is as strong as ever.

Look at all the major cities in America, New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, Las Angeles, San Fransisco, I could go on and on, the point is that they all got so big and great because of democrats. I don't trust them at the federal and state level, But I think that voting democrat for the city will take us to that level. I'm weary of voting for Bailey because he's says he's lived here all of his life, he may be a great guy, but doesn't seem to  have outside experience that is needed to pick this city up out of the rubble. Again I don't mean to offend locals, but many of you acknowledge that we need people elsewhere to get things done, just as I'm saying now. Who are the democratic candidates? Have any of them posted here on MJ?

It seems the Democratic nomination will be between Glorious Johnson and Alvin Brown. Both are african americans with strong ties to that local community. Glorious as been a veteran i Jax politics. While only recently becoming a democrat, she wasted no time distancing herself from Jacksonville republicans. Alvin Brown served the Clinton administration and , as we post, is having a fund raising event tonight featuring President Clinton himself.
Both candidates epitimize your definition of democratic direction on the local level, althought i myself am a bit ignorant of Alvins approach to being mayor.

A lot of candidates were at UNF yesterday for a lunch/QandA session.
There was also a free event at 5 Points Theatre a few months back.
From my understanding, once we get past Jan 1st, there will be several more types of these events.

Mr Bailey will be on MJ next Monday night if you want to ask him questions.

In fairness to Mr. Brown, his facebook page is here: http://www.facebook.com/AlvinForMayor

And his website is here: http://www.alvinformayor.com/

However, he doesn't seem as "connected" to Jacksonville as I would imagine our next Mayor needs to be.  Maybe he's working on that now.

I edited my post.  I was trying to google him last week and none of those sites came up in the first two pages of the google search, which I thought was very strange.

Thanks for the information Jimmy! Look forward to just what the candidates have to say about certain issue's! I never have gotten a responce from Mr Mullaney's handlers.........asked point blank why he felt the OGC was the point people for ethical issue's! Not their mandate and not their job! Ethics should and must be a separate organization, not beholding to anyone and darn sure not serving at the will of the Mayor!

Yeah, that bugs me a bit!

I don't have anything substantive to add right now but as the author of the blog post that fieldafm highlighted I just felt a need to out myself and say hello.  I really enjoy the discussion here and value all of your thoughts and perspectives on the different candidates so thank you for the education/enlightened debate.

Also, I was just curious how you stumbled across me.

And a (somewhat) proper welcome for metrojax members who may be inclined to visit my blog again+shameless self-promotion:
