I saw the article, criticizing the the BRT in the paper this morning and noted this website. You folks have got it on the ball. Bus Rapid Transit is not the way to go. I was also pleased to notice comments about the old "S" line which is an excellent location for a light rail line that would serve far more people and places than the north leg of the BRT. The only plausible BRT route, in my opinion, would be east to Regency. Anywhere else, rail is already there.
My interests are not just local, however. I am an advocate of rail as the 3rd leg of the transportation "stool". As it is, with air and highway, we are being passed by, by even 3rd world countries that know rail is the single best option for mass travel. Specifically loss of the Sunset Limited service between NewOrleans and Jacksonville, a purely political move, with no economic justification, has hurt my families ability to travel a lot. As is the case with many older Americans, long distance airline flights are dangerous - read deep vein thrombosis, and travel by car is even more of a problem. We traveled twice a year to Texas via the Sunset to visit grandchildren.
I will get off my stump now, but I will have much more to say later.
