Great pix! These are views of the city not everybody gets to see! Thank you!
Good job....I can remember when it was solid ships from the Courthouse to the Matthews Bridge....
and rows of cars outside the Ford Plant.
That pic of the water in front of the stadium where's that view from? I guess the River. Never seen that view before. Great pics as usual. Thanks!!
Does anyone know the status of the public boat dock proposed for the Riverside Arts Market?
Great photos! I love the ones with the reflection off the water.

It's taken from the river, looking directly north at Metropolitan Park and the stadium.
Couple of missing data points, but another fantastic article nonetheless.
Great job, as always!

What type of vessel is this? Is this a trawler? If so, is it common to see them in the vicinity of the Matthews Bridge?
looks like a shrimper to me,
not unheard of for one to come upriver
Definately looks like a shrimp boat, which there are some docked at the marina near the foot of the Matthews Bridge... there's also a boat ramp/Gate station/dry dock and general boat repair facility there as well.
Something all too uncommon unfortunately in this city today b/c of all the condo projects that tore down many marinas over the last decade.
There are an abundance of crab traps too on the eastside part of the river in that location, opposite the channel.
I had no idea the railroad bridge was that old.
I was out walking the dog with my wife on the Main St bridge last night and got to watch the bridge go up. Pretty cool to peer right over the edge. The bridge is eerily quiet when it goes up and down!
It is fun to see so many appreciate photos of views typically unseen.
Access to the water via boat grants access to a panorama.
And small craft, affordable and useable for many are key to enhanced awareness and enjoyment.
Downtown hand launch facility for smaller car top vessels would prove to be a giant plus.
Well at least it looks like we have a tower being built, even though it never changes.
Great photo tour. Now I'd like to find a boat and get on the river!
Great post. Jacksonville (downtown, both North and Southbanks) looks great! Great photos as well.

The Ford plant usually has barges tied to it.
Just remember that the manatee zones are agressive. The speed limit between the Mainstreet and the mathews is 25mph in the channel. Between the Mathews and Reddie point is 25mph. They could write a lot of tickets there. Without a manatee in sight.
The water in front of the Landing is slow minium wake all the way across. And Fuller Warren to Acosta is minimium wake. Which all makes it tough during a falling tide to go through the current side next to the landing. Follow the signs posted.

QuoteAfter many leaps and hurdles through city and environmental red tape, construction will begin in December.
Thank you,

Me and some co-workers went to the charthouse yesterday. I had never been that far down riverplace blvd but they view of the river is beautiful. Jacksonville has so many hiddne secrets
That ol' FEC RR bridge is due for a paint job soon. It's covered in surface rust. ;)
What was interesting was seeing them tear down the old Acosta Bridge (which was much closer to the RR Bridge than the replacement Acosta) without damaging the RR bridge.

Bridge Span Being Put in Place
Original caption: A new 216 foot railway Bridge Span was rolled into place on the new Florida East Coast railway bridge across the Saint Johns River at Jacksonville, Florida, in four minutes time. The Span was erected on specially driven falsework, near the bridge site, when barges filled with water, were fulled beneath it. The Span weighs 1,300,000 pounds and is shown here being put in place.

A lot of people with boats sit there in the river on game day and have a floating cocktail party while watching the game on the trinitron, which you can see from the river. Can be a real fun time.
