Why is it that when someone makes a comment regarding Jacksonville as a city, people get unnecessarily defensive? It's even more apparent when the individual making the comment or observation is not a native to this city?
The majority of comments about Jacksonville are for the most part positive and often times, people make stunningly on-target observations on how to improve things (such as the downtown urban core).
My partner and I are well-traveled (spend much time in Europe) and have lived in many different cities throughout the US. We both feel strongly that Jacksonville has so much to offer its residents' and also to newcomers. However, it gets tiring to hear the same negative feedback from tiresome people who say things like, "If you don't like it here, why don't cha go back to where you came from"... <people are so stupid>.....
Do any of you encounter that same type of response and if so, how you handle it?
Just very frustrating to hear this all the time. Most of it seems to come from people who have never been, lived nor traveled anywhere else.
JaxResident...........speaking strictly for myself..............I ignore them! Pretty simple by my standards.....native or not, if you live here then you should have a say in things right wrong or indifferent! The old adage of "Narrow Minds" comes to my mind, but I don't lose any sleep over it!
CS,
Thanks for your input. My partner and I have lived here for 5.5 years and there are so many positives in this city, especially with so many of the people we have encountered (the Springfield folks are AWESOME!)....
It just gets discouraging at times though.
You shut your mouth when you're talking about Jacksonville! >:(
I think it's comparable to the short mans complex. I wasn't born here but I've lived here long enough to form a chip on my shoulder.
"If you're an Automobile-loving, self reliant, small government-wishing conservative and speaking to most MJ posters, you are lucky to still be alive:)"
:D I'll bet you just slap those guys silly :D
