I've been watching these events unfold in WI, since Madison is my hometown. Of course all of my friends in Madison and Milwaukee can't wait for the train. It is already generating talk of private and government investments in Madison, and Milwaukee landed the Spanish based train manufacturing plant. Unfortunately, the train has become very politicized and the two candidates for governor, oddly both from Milwaukee, have made the issue part of their platforms. I'm afraid the Republican's vision in this case is severely short-sighted and negative. They are "spinning" the same uneducated crap we deal with in Jacksonville and Florida when it comes to rail and smart growth. Even in the few years since I've left WI, the state as a whole has continued it's decline into unchecked extremism in politics which is sad because WI used to be one of the progressive leaders in the nation.
The Republican's are blind to the fact that this rail connection between Milwaukee and Madison will be a huge boost to the local economies. Amtrak has been connecting Chicago to Milwaukee for years and has been an excellent stimulator for northern Illinois. Now WI has the chance to connect Madison to Chicago via Milwaukee and in my opinion will miss a huge opportunity if the GOP somehow stops this development.
Maybe the Party of No should change its name to the Party of Nonsense? I wonder if we could swap some traffic consultants with them............JTA might give us a special.............two for one?
Maybe he should push for rail and repairs to crumbling infrastructure. He does have a point about the crumbling infrastructure and Minneapolis (where I-35 bridge collapsed not too long ago) is nearby. He could argue that by saying both would provide jobs and the original role of government was to help with infrastructure, not social programs, in the first place.
