Does anyone happen to know exactly why they closed so quickly?
Granted, we really were not in need of another sushi place in this area. There are so many. But, they seemed to have had little chance at making a go of the place. My partner and I had lunch there not too long after they opened. The food was lackluster and the service non-polished. However, that was our experience.
What we truly need in 5 points (restaurant-wise) is an African Restaurant or perhaps Moroccan.
There are 245,521,676 sushi places here already. There just isn't the market or demand for another one.
You're right.
There isn't the market or demand for one. What draws the attention of "authentic-foodies" are places which have interesting and captivating items on the menu, a full bar, a chef who knows how to push the envelope, and customers who have an interest in "real" cuisine.... not ready-made or taken from a frozen bag.
Places like 13 Gypsies are thriving in the current market because they offer great food and Chef Howard knows what he is doing.....

Haha, Loki!
Stopped by what was until recently Yoshi Sushi.
Looked in the window and snapped a few photos. As I was walking away from the building, a well dressed guy (shirt and tie) walked up, unlocked the door and went inside.

nom nom nom....
I'd be happy with a pho place. We have a distinct lack of Pho houses in Jacksonville.
