QuoteWoman Shot, Killed In Northside Street
28-Year-Old Woman's Scream Draws Neighbors, Police

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police were alerted to a fatal shooting on the Northside early Tuesday morning by neighbors who heard a woman scream.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. T.K. Waters said neighbors in the 600 block of West 16th Street said they heard the woman scream about 2:30 a.m., looked out in the street and saw a vehicle take off.
Police said they found 28-year-old Natasha Nicole Fears in the street with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital, where she died.
"What we've learned so far is that the victim was outside, across the street, when witnesses heard her scream," Waters said. "They looked outside, saw her lying on the ground and a white vehicle leaving eastbound on West 16th Street."
Another life gone in Jacksonville, why this time?
Note that this better fits the Northside forum than the Springfield forum as it isn't in Historic or New. The neighborhood is called Hogan's Creek.
Sure this isn't New Springfield? I had apartments on E. 16th that were New Springfield, this is only 3 blocks over.
And forgetting the shooting for a second, the real-world actuality here is that everything from 1st through the MLK Expwy is "Springfield" despite the attempts of one group over the past few years to reduce the word "Springfield" to referring only to a tiny district west of Main and south of 8th. The residents refer to their location as "Springfield," everyone else knows it as "Springfield," COJ considers it "Springfield."
It's fully integrated by proximity, urban connexity, utilities, and by through-streets with "Springfield." Moving forward, the area will rise or fall as one neighborhood, this is like arguing that Avondale isn't Riverside. Of course they're the same, the two names were just different because the developers back in the day assigned different monikers to different series of plats within the same neighborhood.
I had many investment properties in/around the area and always considered it "Springfield" as did everyone else. This trend of reducing the word "Springfield" to referring only to 1 square mile began when the SPARbarians started moving in and thinking they had hit the goldmine. Before that mess, "Springfield" generally referred to 1st through the MLK, and for anyone who's been here awhile it still does.
I've called myself effing brilliant for a really long time too, doesn't make it so. ;D
I based my statement on this discussion on myspringfield.org. Decide for yourself. And I really don't give two sh!t$ about how SPAR describes anything.

I read that thread. As much as I can't stand the thought of agreeing with Dan Blanchard about anything, he nailed it;
QuoteI think its hard to get hyper local using the City maps because so many of the communities are not commonly referred to by the name the city has given it on its maps.
If we are going to get hyper-technical about it, then 3/4'ths of people who live in Riverside don't "really" live in Riverside, or San Marco, or Ortega, if you're going to insist that each individual subdivided plat within those areas be called by their correct legal names dating back to 100 years ago. Seems kind of silly, no?

ChriswUFGator, most of the folks I know who live in Avondale would STRONGLY object to your referring to their neighborhood as Riverside. Avondale was developed much later than Riverside and with a very different plan for development.
And there are many reasons for distinguishing Historic Springfield from New Springfield and Hogans Creek.
It should be moved, but even if left I do not care, anyone that wants to believe we have shootouts on the streets of Historic Springfield is not going to live here even if we can prove it is outside of our little neighborhood (whose name has been stolen!). If you can't see the real difference between 16th st and 9th St, well you probably do not belong in an urban environment anyway.

Well I agree with you on the Avondale people and their stenuous objections. I had a 13-year old girl call me out at a movie theatre and tell me I wasn't in Avondale...by a whopping 13 feet.
