From what I understand, horizontal work at 200 Riverside is commencing....and vertical construction will begin around the end of the year
Still not much going on save the Courthouse...and it's coming along quite nicely, but, I still don't like it.
Glad to see 200 Riverside moving forward! And the Wolfson's hospital tower should be comming out of the dirt soon as well.
Just wanted to give everyone an update since there is a picture of our construction on this thread.
We will be completing the brewery by September 30th. Hope to brew our first batch of People's Pale Ale soon after that and will release our beers by the end of October.
Have received our Federal Brewers Permit and will get our Florida permit next week. Can't brew beer for sale until you receive both.
Our taproom will open in the middle of November and will be open 4 days a week and will have 12 beers on tap.
We will be selling quart and gallon growlers to go in addition to kegs.
We also are in discussions with a couple of local restaurants about selling there "wares" during taproom hours.
Can't wait to be a part of King Street and the Riverside brewing district!
Cheers,
Ben

What is up with the new fountain in Avondale? What is that?
Are the other intersections along Laura going to be as much of a tank-trap as the roundabout? If so, my east-west travel thru DT will be on State/Union. I'm sure the auto repair shops that do front-end work are loving it!
Am I the only one who doesn't think that the roundabout on Laura is that bad? It is bumpy but it's not like your suspension is going to fall off. Think of how many similar small bumps you hit while going 45 down San Jose or whatever. It centainly does slow down the traffic in that area.

+1.
Also - I remember reading somewhere else in the forums that 200 Riverside is going to look nothing like its original incarnation? How far off will the final product be? Enough to elicit another 'ho-hum' reaction?
What is DK's Island? Donkey Kong?

No, you're not the only one. I purposely drove it the other day just to see what all the fuss was about. It's bumpy so cars slow down. Duh - works exactly as intended.
Love the Round about. First rule in making an area more pedestrian friendly slow the cars down.
Well I'm glad I'm not the only one! So far I have mostly seen people bitching about it. My only beef is that they could have put a small concrete strip around the outside for skinny tire cyclists.
what is happening at 5th and liberty??? i see it's been boraded up, yet i have not heard anything about it

I bike there three times a week. There is a paver path connecting the two sidewalks, which is what I use when at the roundabout. That pedestrian paver path will also exist at the Bay/Laura intersection they are working on now.
I meant for people on road bikes that aren't riding on the sidewalk, sorry for any confusion. People going slower on fat tire bikes should have no problem hopping up on the sidewalk or just riding over the pavers. But people with road bikes (700c tires) will have issues crossing these roundabouts. The problem here is that you do not want people on bikes flying up onto sidewalks in pedestrian pathways. Luckily for DT there are hardly an pedestrians so I doubt that will be an issue. Also road riders will not want to be riding up on to sidewalks or over cobbles with large voids like these because they are not designed for that and it may damage equipment.
YAY! Makes me excited to see our uban core coming back to LIFE month by month!

Definately! Hopefully the Laura Trio/Barnett project comes to life. It would do great as an anchor in the heart of DT to promote continued redevelopment!

That would be awesome. MJ needs a "like" button like Facebook - I would totally "like" this!

5th and Liberty will be a single family residence.
Is it just me or is construction and the sheer amount of projects ramping up? If so, AWESOME!
2 comments: New County Courthouse: Ewwww, puke, less than ho hum about it.
Avondale streetscaping: glad they preserved some trees, but in the quarter section near Blue Fish Oyster Bar, it seems it could use some small shade trees, no?

I caught the residents at work when I took my photos of Springfield this summer. Seemed like a very nice couple trying to convert a former commercial use to residential.

Impossible no.........diffulcult yes. Having lost tires on other things downtown, specifically the railroad tracks on San Marco near the hospital, I'd be hesitant to go though those round abouts. Here is some words about the cobbles on this years Tour De France.

It looks like East San Marco could be beginning to move forward as well.

Fingers crossed.
Any pics? I opened the site didnt see any pics.
What does 'conditional capacity availability' mean?? That square footage and construction cost also looked way small. Not sure what that means.
Someone NEEDS to get over to Atlantic Blvd @ Kings Ave today and take some pictures of the construction. Most of the work is being done on the back side of the building, opposite Atlantic blvd. They have moved the entrance and put in a huge awning. It looks great, but I haven't heard anything about the project.

I agree. People tend to find something to complain about but I am happy that the city is trying to improve that area.
I think we are almost all happy about the round about and the Laura street improvements. I hope lighting is part of the plan.

This would be great news. I thought 200 Riverside was dead in the water.
Here's a recent face lift on Main St in Springfield.

This must be one helluva an outhouse! :D
I heard that the city is starting work to put in a storm drain system on Forest between Riverside and Park. Looks like they have already started work, tearing up some of the landscaped median where Forest meets Riverside.
What makes me laugh is that a courthouse with hundreds of people going there a day doesn't need a parking lot, but a little boutique has to have parking with probably only 25 at most customers per day. Something doesn't add up here.
The courthouse has a multi-story garage on Forsyth Street. Been open for a couple years, with the City subsidizing the operator because the CH did not open with the garage.
Yeah but what I'm saying is that the CH had no specific parking space when being designed. Luckily there is the parking garage you mentioned for CH parking. Meanwhille a lot of business's that the city doesn't own is required to have a specific parking space.
actually the courthouse did have a parking requirement...the garage was built with the purpose of serving the courthouse...it just opened first because of all the courthouse delays
I was on lunch break yesterday and noticed some work and treaty oak park? Has anybody heard anything about it.
They are revamping the park. It's completely fenced off now.
Where will the homeless go??
Shell Station on Main?

Went by Kings and Atlantic the other day. It deffinately seems they have moved the main entrance to the back of the building (south wall). They have built the covered porch as mention, and there are multiple openings in the south wall that are temporarily boarded. Not sure if those are existing or new. They have cut 2 openings in the east wall of the building, looks like they might be small windows.
Seems like the church might be reusing this building, moving the entrance to face the church. I'm not so sure this construction is going to end up being a "plus" for the area. Hopefully they do something good to dress up the sides that face King and Atlantic.

Thats what I was wondering too. It has been mentioned anywhere that it was being revamped, but it indeed it. We need to revamp confederate park and clean up Hogan's creek. That the most important thing.
Here is a scoop on a project you missed on San Marco Blvd. It appears there is demo already on the rear part of the property. The architect's rendering is on the developer's sign facing San Marco, a few blocks south of Bistro Aix and north of European Street and on the same side of the street. Went by too fast to catch the project name. You might want to check it out for your next update.
I finally found out what's going in at Kings Ave & Hendricks. It looks like it's going to be a Medical office.
stjr, I saw the building you're talking about on San Marco Blvd. The only sign I saw was for the roofing company they're using. About 3 doors north of that there's some interior renovations going on as well. The sign said it's going to be an animal hospital. i don't know what the previous use was.
^It looks like they are completely walling off the building's front and shifting the opening to the rear of the property.
and there is finally progress on Hurricane Wings....the windows have been covered

That building never really addressed the street. They've added windows onto Kings Ave and more windows in the back. The entrance definitely doesn't look like a Medical office, but that's what the sign said. I wish Hurricane Wings would hurry up. I'll give them twice a week business throughout football season.
It originally did. It was a part of several retail buildings at the terminal point of an old streetcar line. The rest of that district was demolished for the construction of I-95 and the surrounding ramps.

Yep and you can still see the facade under the concrete panels. Too bad they couldn't restore just the facade or something.
Those of you asking about 200 Riverside, I believe these are the revised plans. No residential :(

which is terrible news because, you know, there's such a shortage ov overpriced condominium and apartment houseing in jacksonville right now... ::)

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for the office building either.
the office building is ready to go....they've pre-leased 70% of it which got them access to the financing....construction starts by the en of the year
Good news
