Rescue efforts under way after oil rig explosion in Gulf
[Posted at 11:53 a.m.] U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Bill Colclough tells CNN that 12 people from the rig are in the water immersion suits as they await rescue.
Colclough told CNN there are reports the rig is still on fire.
"We don't know what caused the rig to catch on fire," he told CNN, noting the incident is under investigation.
Asked about concerns regarding oil leaks or pollution, Colclough said "there are reports the rig was not actively producing any product, so we don't know if there's any risk of pollution."

This is gonna be a HUGE environmental disaster.
I needs me some Big Oil CEO heads on platters and I needs em now!
We don't know if it'll be a huge environmental disaster just yet.. They may not have been drilling, so there may not be any oil to be spilled.
Lets hope there's little to none for the Gulf Coast's sake, both enviornmentally and economically.

Huh? Those dudes wear Titanium neck braces. Is this classified as a disaster or is it minor? The original post seems like it minor.
The BP spill was once minor too. Look how that may or may not have turned out.

Being sarcastic? Yes... Sorry it is part of my make up, although I should try to change.
Taking up for Big Oil execs? nope.
You should not change BH I thought it was funny evenif I didn't read it quite right.
A Coast Guard helicopter conducting surveillance around the platform spotted a light rainbow sheen nearby Friday morning.
Would this still make it minor? And what is the cut of to minor from major as far as exploding production oil rigs go?
Minor... major... Who cares as long as I gets my public executions!
I've figured it out. How about this. Any spark, fire, or subsequent explosion, large or small, on a production oil rig is major. I have spoken.
It could have been something as minor as using steel chipping hammers on a steel structure! Ships have bronze equipment for just that reason! That rig pumped something like 1,400 barrels per day and with a 13 man crew, not what I would call a "Major Rig" but either way a real mickey mouse operation......and the crew was lucky! I did not see any lifeboat rigs on it either!

It all depends on personal agenda. Oil can leak if it doesnt hurt a certain group of peoples bottomline like the BP spill..BP was a big deal because sectors were losing money. Most American do not care for the environment only money. Money is more important than the environment to the average basic american who drives an SUV. So...its not major until groups of people are losing money.
