Title: Shanes Rib Shack
Post by: danno on August 30, 2010, 04:59:07 PM
Has anyone tried Shanes Rib Shack on Beach at Hodges??  They dropped of a sample platter at our office this afternoon.  My employees gobbled it all up beofre I could get my hands on it.  They said it was good and it looked good, but I would like a 2nd or 3rd opinion.

They are pretty good for sure and good prices.  They catered some events at my wife's work and they enjoyed it so she took me this past week.  I had the pork sandwich topped with coleslaw and she had chicken.  Both were great and good sides too.

I'm typically not one to complain about service, but I have literally never had a more unpleasant restaurant experience than at Shane's. I'm not a huge rib fan to begin with, but I had recieved some grand opening coupons in the mail, so I figured we'd give it a try. The woman in front was incredible rude, almost to a comical extent (I get up the counter, place my entire order, and then she just stares at me blankly and says "What was that?" before looking back up at the TV). And then, for the real kicker, when I went to use my coupon (buy one, get one free), she told me she couldn't accept it, and that "the owner would be crazy to give away free food." I mean, I'm standing here with this coupon in my hand that the restaurant had sent me, and they simply refused to honor it. It wasn't expired. It wasn't a photocopy. I was dumbfounded. Rather than cause a scene, I went ahead and just paid for the food, as it had already been ordered. Five minutes later, I'm sitting at the table studying this coupon, and I start to get angry. I mean, the whole situation was ridiculous. So I take a deep breath, walk back up to the counter, and ask to speak to a manager. "She ain't here," I'm told. So I again show the woman the coupon, ask her to look it over, and keep my cool. She won't even look at it, instead saying, "You shoulda come here on opening day. We wuz giv'n 'way ribs for free! Fifteen pounds of 'em. T-shirts too."

At this point, I simply asked for two to-go boxes, boxed up our food, and left.

To top it all off, the food was disgusting.

Fatty, meatless ribs. Sub par beans. Obviously frozen french fries.

Terrible experience that will never be repeated.

We had a bad experience as well. Went there one time with my wife and son. Similar story, we had a coupon and decided to give it a shot. The girl working the front was rather emotionless and not particularly helpful when I had questions. We sat down to wait for our food and after about 10 minutes, I asked how much longer it would be a was told it would be a few minutes. My food and my wife's food came out but they did not bring out my son's grilled cheese sandwich. I went back to the counter to ask where it was and was told they were out of cheese. It seemed like a joke but they were dead serious. This place in the same plaza as a Wal Mart, across the street from a Target and less than a five minute drive from at least 3 Publix supermarkets. I have never owned or managed a restaurant but I think if you are out of cheese, you go buy some damn cheese. I asked for my money back for his and received the refund. A woman then came out who said she was the owner and apologized. Doubt I'll go back. I will go to Mojo or Bono's and support a local business and get much better food for only slightly more money.

I heard bad things so I never went. It's also a national chain, I thought it was a local shop.

LOL I thought this was a local Atlanta chain and never imagined it to be national. Their chicken fingers always looked good in commercials, but I still havent tried it.

Guess my experience was in the minority then!

One thing I will say is everybody I saw working there looked fairly young and didn't look particularly interested in being there. To me, that shows that they probably only pay their employees minimum wage and their employees don't have much motivation to do a good job.

You get what you pay for.

Thought I would be adventurous....  Then again, maybe not.
