San Marco's popular Pulp will be going into the Shoppes of Avondale. The store will be next to the Garden Shop, across from Monty's.
B/w Biscottis, Florida Creamery, Peterbrooke's and now Pulp... you're sweet tooth should be more than satisfied :)
Pulp rocks! I suggested they look at Springfield...I don't know what happened. Can we be next?
With Pulp and Mojo's coming to Avondale, the area will be a dining hub for that whole side of town. It's like the dining component of the SJTC without the clear cutting, traffic jams, scorching heat, and parking lots.
I think the Avondale strip could use another night spot. Hopefully Mojo's will stay open late to help meet this need. Other than Monty's (which is awful) and Casbah on the west end of the strip, there isn't much to offer. I haven't really checked out Brick late night and Bluefish, so they may have a better crowd than I'm aware of. I think something like Rogue or the Grotto would do well here.
You should check out Elevated Avondale then. I personally like Thur nights... old school hip hop and ladies night.

After leaving a Theater Jax performance the other night we went by the San Marco Pulp. Not only did the 2 sharp kids know what was in what ingredient wise, the one freaked when he realized the green bio friendly spoons were made of corn starch. He disappeared down the street for a couple of seconds and returned with a few plastic spoons from somewhere preventing 3 allergic reactions. Way to go Pulp! We'll be back soon
I love Pulp....great coffee, good fresh juice, delicious frozen yogurt, ingenious Acai bowls and breakfasts...
That being said, when is someone going to tell them ALL THEIR SMOOTHIES TASTE THE SAME!!!!! And if they don't taste the same, they taste bland! I'm all for smoothies without syrups, packets, and added sugars, but common guys, these just aren't that good.
They serve coffee? Are they open early?
They're open early...how early--not too sure. Sorry about that. I think their hours may be online though??
Their coffee is excellent. Takes awhile to brew though, as it's one-cup-at-a-time.
I have never been to Pulp but I did see the 48 Hour Film Project movie they filmed there.
QuoteOther than Monty's (which is awful)
For 2 million you can buy Monty's, the building is for sale, the contents are then negotiable. Any takers?????

Brick gets a pretty good bar crowd going Fri/Sat nights, and they have live music. It can be fun.
Is Eclipse still around? Anybody been lately?
Rumor is, Montys may have a new restaurant tenant with seating for around 100 next year.
Eclipse is still open. I live right up the street from it. It gets some decent crowds on old wave nights.
Also, Yoga Berry is about to open up in the old Robert Burns Florist space.

Pulp coffee is great...
I hear 'town is really really good too :)

I tried searching for this, but couldn't find it. Is this on the strip?
Can't wait for whatever is replacing Monty's. Even an applebee's would be better IMO. Any word on the Casbah expansion?
The florist is next door to The Fox, thats where it will be going
So within 3 blocks, at least 4 new dining establishments are in the works...? Without any involvement from the city or any Vision organizations to help spur development? Does that mean downtown should be expecting 40 new eating options in the next year??

Hey Captain, I know you frequent Riverside a lot since I've run into you a couple times in Kickbacks and whatnot, so surely I bet you know the answer to this conundrum? Maybe someone could point out for us where all the parking meters, cops, parking tickets, time limits, etc., are in Riverside? It's a real mystery!
According to COJ and planners like Tufsu, the "total chaos" (his exact words) that occurs without a bunch of asinine parking policies, parking meters, and rude enforcement, should really be stifling development over here, right?
What's going on? I'm confused...(tongue in cheek)
Or maybe, businesses want to locate where there is maximum density?
JTA has a real opportunity on its hands here. Parking is going to become an even bigger issue with a 150 seat restaurant(Mojos) and another potential 100 seat restaurant at Montys.
IMO, the Trolley service should be extended to evening hours(like the Beaches Trolley does), a new route should be opened on Park street, the existing route should connect to Roosevelt Square, and JTA should work on a transit-oriented merchant program(something they dropped the ball on when the Beaches Trolley rolled out).
You know, I'm not sure what the difference between Riverside and downtown is.....
One thing I noticed that was peculiar was that the owner of Jacksonville's newest brewery leased the space adjacent to his business for patrons to use as parking because he was concerned that his property did not provide enough spaces when his business was at capacity. I guess he was concerned about the end-user experience or something.
I doubt it's going to help his business. He should put up 30 minute parking meters and hire some maladjusted parking cops to patrol the area instead. That will surely keep folks coming back.
I was out in Riverside 4 times over the past 10 days. I didn't notice any 'total chaos' while I was there, but I'm sure I just wasn't looking hard enough. I couldn't coax people to join me downtown because they described it as 'a hassle'. I can't imagine why.
Stephen, apparently downtown still has the stigma that "It's not safe to go down there"!
Rumor on the street is that Frank and other restaurant owners in Avondale have enlisted Paul Harden to rescind the overlay that Corrigan pushed through allowing any business to change to a restuarant without needing the appropriate number of parking spaces. Should be fun to watch.
And..... now PULP in Avondale is permanently closed... R.I.P.

Mojo's late late night hours scaled back, having lost the Crowd to King Street.
And the assumptions behind the 2 million price tag for Monty's evaporated,as one aspiring buyer discovered; Mellow Mushroom took the giant bite out of the Commons.

I have yet to try Grassroots. I will have to try it soon now that Pulp is gone.
Quoteso how is all that pizza armageddon thing going for you?
Apparently well, in so much as the entire place was packed Sunday for the World Cup final, no tables available anywhere. Nice!

yawn. so how is all that pizza armageddon thing going for you? Didn't you promise the complete destruction of the neighborhood? As well as do a lot of name calling back when Mellow Mushroom was trying to get open? By the way, it was nice to see you inside the restaurant that you tried so hard to keep from opening. How was the food?
Endless Pizza Loop!! :)
I have been to Mellow Mushroom four times since opening. One visit was late night, wife's birthday, acquaintances at the bar, complimentary drinks....and drinks.....had no business driving an automobile home; new resolve to Not Do That Again.
The best MM visit was by bike, sat at couch next to open wall door- put my feet up on the sill.Alas, prime seating like that is rare.
Always sure to produce a giant yawn.....MMmost potential harmful effects mitigated during application process, thanks to We Love Avondale, including the role of a former Clay County Planner who facilitated the First Coast Outer Beltway, all the while residing in Avondale and would eventually team up with WLA. Outer Beltway and RAP Overlay substantial deviation proposal sociology, certain driving narratives have proven remarkable in similarity.

well I think its very big of you to frequent a place that you helped cost a couple of hundred thousand dollars in expenses. Especially after claiming that it would destroy the neighborhood.
Also, WLA lost. Your changes didn't improve the site design or the business plan. They just cost someone else money and good will defending themselves.
But its good to hear that you liked the pizza.
Personally I would have liked the initial proposed but withdrawn roof top music with sound attenuation device. Is that still possible under current Vesting??
The scale of the property and intensity, which of course after all,is much more than a corner gas station lot, assures maximum income generation. A focus solely on the corner lot, myriad cool ideas/scaled back project was an option- not low profit version.
The Substantial Deviation Application costs could also be chalked up to business as usual, ask for more than what you expect. No doubt the Applicant has fairly easily incurred the public process costs and in fact, even that aspect is good for the economy- well paid attorney.
