Board Chairman: Change Was Needed

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The executive director of JaxPort, a powerhouse part of the city's economy, has stepped down from his job.

Rick Ferrin led the port for the past 13 years. He will temporarily be replaced by Chris Kauffmann. Kauffman has been serving as the port's chief operating officer.

The chairman of the port's board of directors, David Kulik, said he had been discussing the changes in the shipping industry and their impact on the port with Ferrin for more than a year. Kulik said the port has grown dramatically under Ferrin's leadership, but said a change was needed.

Sounds like the BoD is flexing muscle to reassert its authority and legitimacy after a wave of investigations and Board dismissals...trying to reaffirm the order of things and not keep appearing as a mere advisory council.

Well they are a "mere advisory council" and the Port is now unguided! Must be nice to receive 3/4's pay for a few months worth of advisory work! Wish I had the golden parachute!
