Glorious Johnson, CW and mayoral candidate, spent the afternoon at 3 Layers talking to the locals and drinking up some delicious atmosphere.
She shared with us her concern about the number of homes being demolished in Springfield and its possible effect on the historic district designation.

We were told stories of her family's history in and around this neighborhood, about her disappointment at the loss of brick streets, and her determination to help Preservation SOS save historic structures in the neighborhood.
"The more you destroy -- instead of restore -- homes in a historic district, the more you take the history away."
She cares about this neighborhood, she lives nearby and she remembers what it used to be like. She also recalled, with bitterness, the utter destruction of LaVilla and is determined not to let that happen here.
This is a real problem, we're losing houses and soon will lose what makes us a historic district
Ms Glorious +1............no other candidate to this point has said squat about much of anything! It is about time for all candidates to start being more vocal than what they have to this point! I wish I had known.....I would've shown up!
Right you are... CS & SPR'R
The city has a plan for paving over the brick on 4th Street. This has been the subject of much discussion on myspringfield.org, including this comment:

Got some word on the plan for West 4th Street...
The city worked out a plan with the community (not sure specifically *who* in the community that entails... I think the residents of W 4th and SPAR) several years ago. West 4th St needs repairing and an improved drainage system. Right now it has quite a bit of unsightly asphalt patching, although the area between Silver and Pearl is nearly pristine.
The plan is to tear up all the brick, put in a better drainage system, and lay down an asphalt road. The brick from the road would be used to make crosswalks (probably similar to what is on main street except reusing some of the historic brick).
Due to funding the project is on indefinite hold, and has been for some time. There are many new residents in the community, so I for one think that the plan needs to be readdressed. Unless something drastic occurs, any project is surely not going to happen anytime soon, but at some point in the next few years it will definitely need to be addressed. I can also attest that the drainage is quite bad...
Riverside did have a brick street repaired using outside funding. It sounds like some, if not the majority, of that funding came from outside grants/tax breaks/etc. If anyone can pass me a POC to RAP I will contact them and figure out what their plan of action was, alternatives they pursued, etc...
