Title: EverBank Field
Post by: SMoody84 on August 17, 2010, 12:37:56 PM
Anyone know when the new singage is going up on the Stadium?

I'd say more than a few weeks as it'll take some time to get those large signs made. At the earliest, I'd say the 3rd or 4th game of the reg. season.

Yes they did say everything would be ready for this week. That was the point of getting it approved so quickly.

Well, out of curiosity, I drove by the Stadium today during lunch.  There was no indication of any signs, or pre-work (if there's even going to be any needed?)..

Hopefully they put them up this week!  Or at least by the 1st Regular Season game!

EverBank signs, 400 strong, to immerse Jacksonville stadium area
The signs will total 34,000 square feet.

QuoteThe newly named EverBank Field will have 400 signs with the Jacksonville bank’s logo on it, reminding fans at almost every turn about the company’s five-year, $16.6 million deal to put its name on the city-owned stadium.
None of the signs is up yet, but EverBank and the Jacksonville Jaguars unveiled the design of the signs Wednesday and said most of them will be in place for the Sept. 12 home opener.
The 400 signs will total 34,000 square feet of signage. In comparison, a football field with end zones covers about 58,000 square feet.
“We’ve really started a new chapter in Jaguars football,” said Macky Weaver, senior vice president for sales and marketing for the Jaguars.
He did not have a figure for how many Alltel signs were in place at the stadium when Alltel had naming rights until 2007. But Weaver said EverBank will brand the stadium much more intensely. There will be large EverBank signs on elevated towers, above ticket windows, and at Touchdown Club entrances. Smaller signs will hang from light posts and flagpoles.
“Once you see the final product here, it’s going to be amazing relative to what it was like before,” he said.
EverBank and the Jaguars are sharing the cost of the signs. The expense is in addition to EverBank’s deal to pay the Jaguars for the naming-rights sponsorship. Officials for the bank and Jaguars declined to give a cost for the signs or how that is being split.
Instead of just putting EverBank’s logo on the stadium, the bank and Jaguars wanted a design that celebrates “the pageantry of the NFL experience with a distinctively local flair,” said Lisa Henrichsen, chief marketing officer for EverBank. The signs will have brightly colored panels depicting football and Jacksonville landmarks.
The prevalence of EverBank signs at the stadium will boost the bank’s marketing in the Jacksonville area, adding to the ability to reach a wider television audience when announcers refer to the Jaguars playing at EverBank Field.
Henrichsen said the bank has already benefited from the stadium sponsorship because people are paying closer attention to the bank’s Jacksonville presence.
“The stadium was a tipping point,” she said.

Why did they use a different typeface for "Field"? Why didn't they just use the same as the word "Ever"?

It looks nice, I guess, I mean the signs are colorful, but that seems to be a strange design choice.

Well of course I get down there, and don't have a memory card in my camera..  But in my opinion.. The signs  (over the club entrances) look cheap.  Nothing like the old Alltel signs looked like.. more like a big black road sign.

Pretty sure these are temporary until the better looking ones get completed!

From www.jaguars.com

JAGUARS CROSSWALKS:On Friday morning and afternoon, a dozen high-traffic crosswalks in Jacksonville will be turned into EverBank Field-branded locations, where EverBank ambassadors will hand out mini footballs to the public. The crosswalks include one at the intersection of Riverside Avenue and Roselle Street outside EverBank’s corporate headquarters and one at Independent Drive and Hogan Street near the Jacksonville Landing.

They have the crosswalks painted in front of the Landing and it looks sharp!

They are giving away mini Everbank footballs to promote the Pep Rally at the Town Center.

To the stubborn few (Gator fans), last time I checked none of those signs didn't read Gator Bowl; Oh yeah, the Gator Bowl is the name of an annual college game played at Everbank Field. Never underestimate the Titans.  They are good and have a great runningback in Chris Johnson.  The "they suck" comment does not refer to the quality of their play, but rather to the Nashville Flaming Thumbtacks place in the grand cosmic scheme.  Slightly below nematodes.

If my memory serves me correctly, the Gator Bowl is the original name of the stadium from the late 40’s.  Some of us from the older generation grew up calling it the Gator Bowl for decades before it was renamed Jacksonville Municipal Stadium in the 90’s.  I for one still find myself referring to it as the Gator Bowl, and I am not a stubborn Florida Gator fan.  I may be stubborn, but I am not a Gator fan.  Some old habits are hard to kill.  Just like a lot of you young ones out there still calling it Alltel Stadium, which I doubt is because you are a fan of a defunct telephone service provider.  Get over it, and quit looking to hate.

no thin skin here, offense was not taken at all, just making note of how us old farts are sometimes mentally challenged when it comes to the names of places.  Like I said, some old habits are hard to kill.  When the name changes again, I'm sure there will be plenty of people who will still call it EverBank Field...and in my idiocy will probably just get around to calling it Alltel stadium.

I hear ya. If it was up to me, I would never rename any city street. I'm not totally immune to the old school name syndrome. I still refer to the Doctor [whoever] St(near Shands) as Venus St. With much respect to MLK, there are many who still recognize MLK Parkway as 20th St Expressway.

I still refer to Jacksonville as Cowford, so I wouldn't worry about calling Everbank Field the Gator Bowl.  :-[
