Does anyone know who (parks and rec?) is responsible for this community center? They need some police and security there. It is an open air drug market! These guys turn the the portion of Ionia in front of it into a parking lot , you get boxed in trying to go down the road, and then the gangster wanna beees hit you up for anything you might be needing. I would like to know who is in charge of this place because they obviousy are not doing their job.
They knocked down almost everyhouse across from this place, but have left the central center there and made it easier to deal WTH???!!

There is an office inside. I went there last year to find out when the gym and the pool are open. Lodge your complaint with the manager. The information you are looking for ie who is responsible for the community center, ought to be available there.

You could contact Dug Vanderlain and he will certainly contact Sgt. Short and JSO. From what I have seen first hand of Sgt Short, he will get it taken care of in short order (sorry, couldn't resist the pun).
I too have noticed some activity going on there. 1st and Ionia is an active spot. I should know, driving past it everyday. The stare downs are great!
i must've been in springfield too long--i've never even noticed, and i walk by there at least twice a week.
Nah, you have not been here too long! It is hit or miss, I have not figured out the "actual hours" yet because I work from home and do not have a schedule perse- I leave the house at all different hours.. Sometimes there is no one, sometimes it is a parking lot.
I have seen a security guard there. Can't remember if he is armed. Don't think he was. I saw one during the day.
The community center hosts a lot of meetings there, some are with troubled folks. I went in once because they kept blocking my driveway on 2nd/Ionia. They were not receptive or friendly. Hopefully you'll have a better experience.
I think the community center is a well used city resource and I am glad for that. But, I agree, more monitoring of the exterior activities is needed.
