As the improvement plan progresses, here are some strategies to invite people to walk up the street and draw more into the heart of the city. Part of the problem is for most of the walk, there is nothing but BANKS on the streetscape until you get to future Laura Trio. Lets take the point of view of a visitor to Jax exiting the Landing north for the first time.
1. Sees Arch and AJ statue.
- at night, both should be lit up with floodlights and colors (Arch only) to draw the eye
2. The Modis corner and side Streetscape
Trees and lights not enough here. Show me booths, colored pavilions, sculptures, multiple kiosks on this side or else I have no reason to walk up the street. Could this be where the demo trolley starts?
3. Next intersection is a Regions Bank and the BOA building. UGH. Why continue? I would hope that REGIONS moves elsewhere in the future and a RESTAURANT or RETAIL mix moves in. The green canopies catch the eye.
BOA side not much you can do, so trees and benches and lights best bet.
4. Next chance to draw interest is Marble Bank building on the right. LIGHT THIS THING UP. I mean flood it with white christmas lights. If not, build a rooftop pavilion on it and light that up. Daytime put flags or sometrhing around it - color. Make it interesting to see from a far.
Agreed but I guess time will tell with how the handle all the small details and touches. I may be out of the loop but does anyone know whats going on with the Marble Bank?
