Title: Random Acts of Beauty in Springfield
Post by: sheclown on August 08, 2010, 05:29:35 PM
Debbie Thompson, along with other guerrilla gardeners from the Springfield Garden Club and Preservation SOS, unleashed a powerful Random Act of Beauty this weekend led and inspired by John Fabiano, designer of the Miss Maggie garden project for "Make It Happen!".

They beautified the Roundabouts:   7th and Pearl, 7th and Laura, 4th and Pearl, 4th and Laura.  They added a brick border, additional plants and mulch.  They look FABULOUS!

Special thanks to those who have already offered to keep two of them watered. City Houses at 7th and Pearl, Cathy Campbell and her family for the one at 4th and Laura.

Julie Anne started the Random Acts of Beauty, where many of us have been cleaning up and beautifying corners. Of course, the roundabouts are a good spot to beautify....we just don't have any on the East side.

Julie Anne is the Queen of the Random Acts of Beauty!  She, Nicole, and other eastsiders have been dazzling the eastside with corner love and beauty since early summer.

It's just been wonderful, you'll see corners throughout Springfield with flags, flowers and decorations. There's some very talented people who have stepped up to the plate to do this

It is wonderful to see people engage in positive, healthy community building.  When people are involved in making something better they have a vested interest in keeping it that way.  Keep up the great work!

Yes, we were definitely inspired by Julie Anne, Nicole, and others.  John had already started working on the roundabout at 4th and Pearl, and he brought them up at the last Garden Club meeting.  We hope to join in the "random acts of beauty" movement.

I posted the picture on my Facebook page, but credit goes to John Fabiano for motivating us about the roundabouts.  See his "random act of beauty" on the lot on the SE corner of 6th and Perry as well.

I might suggest something drought tolerant..........like purslane (portaluca) different variety's in many colors. I could go on, but am sure the gardeners there are well aware of what is available and have made the best choice they can..................kudos to all involved!

CS- love Purslane, some think it is a weed, I think it is gorgeous.

John, I am in love with you, because of your design !!!! LOL, truly-you are a master!

I love love love all the "random acts of beauty" going on I love our neighborhood and the power of "one or two or three" we have all found.  We all rock, because we CARE, about our corner, our neighbor, and our hood! We talk the talk and walk the walk, ya'll are my heros!

ooohhh..and ya'll be careful going to brunch in Avondale, I hear they have some peeps forced on them by the feds that are carjacking, eat at Uptown and be sfae :-)

You folks really do give people like me , hope..  I have spent several years off and on , trying to make PS#4 look better, along of course with the help of volunteers.  This makes me want to get on it more than ever..

Springfield is coming back!  Its heartwarming to see and if all of the other suffering areas of Jacksonville would follow your example , this city would be a far more beautiful place to call home.
