Title: ABC Extreme Makeover looking for Jacksonville families
Post by: fieldafm on August 05, 2010, 11:35:31 AM
Good opportunity for a deserving Springfield family??

via today's Daily Record

• ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” seeks deserving families “whose homes desperately need to be rebuilt” and who don’t have the resources, ability or time to do so. The crew seeks families “who have amazing strength of character and who put their own needs aside to help others.” Casting producer Jackie Topacio says “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is making “another huge push” in the Jacksonville area. seeing how they completely demolish the existing house and rebuild new, is it good for springfield?  I can't see them actually renovating an existing historic structure - which is what the houses in springfield need.  I not against helping people out, but am tired of watching Jacksonville trade one historic building for one new building time and time again.

yea i don't like this in springfield, unless they are demolishing an srg home. nothing against srg homes, but i'd rather see one of those go before a historic one

Variety is GOOD. It's okay to have some new, modern structures dotted amongst many more old homes. It might inspire the neighbors to fix up and renovate their old and crusty cottages ;)

I will agree that variety is good, but not at the expense of a unique historic home.  restoration inspires restoration in historic districts.
