Title: Where is the Outdoor Aviation and Ship Museum downtown??
Post by: rjp2008 on August 04, 2010, 05:20:10 PM
My goodness - this would be such a slam dunk it's not even funny. Three planes and two ships.

F-14 Tomcat
PBY Catalina
A concept plane

USS Charles Adams
A spanish Galleon or other tall sail ship

Put it right on the river - Flex space, JEA site? By the stadium?

Heritage Park is so far removed from the public eye people hardly have any idea it's there.

Southbank seems like it would be a nice place to place this.. Near the former site of the Southside Generating Station?

I have heard of Heritage Park but not sure I have been to it.. Id have to see a picture..

Off topic just a little... Floridas historic photograph collection is extensive... I had no idea just how extensive, and even worse , I had no idea of the number of buildings that were razed , that I had no idea about.... IE  Duval High/Grammar School  #1  which was eerily similar to Annie Lytle, but appeared to be either 3 full stories, or the Basement was utilized ..  I have no idea where this school was located..  I was actually trying to find some photograph of Annie when she was in use..and still have had no luck.. but I copied a number of very similar School Houses in various places in Florida... When I can figure out how to paste all of these pictures to a thread, I will.. It seems Neoclassic was combined with Doric in a lot of examples..

Anyway....back to topic...

Ok..I definitely have not seen Heritage Park.

Because you probably can't get on base.

Heritage park would be so much nicer if it were off-base so the rest of us civvies could enjoy it. It's like a year round static air show.

But you can get on base if you want.

I think a park like this would be a great tourist draw.  If would be nice if the boat had was large enough to have the deckspace for a plane or two.

This is the kind of stuff that - if we had a weekly drive time radio show - we could talk about it and get commuters to call in and talk about it. Word would spread and action might follow.
