Title: JTA seeks money for commuter rail study
Post by: thelakelander on July 28, 2010, 07:01:58 PM
QuoteJTA seeks money for analysis before building commuter rail in Jacksonville

Last year, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority conducted a study that found thousands of people would utilize a commuter rail system in Northeast Florida.
Before JTA can build commuter rail, though, it will have to conduct at least two more studies. One of those could be paid for with help from U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla.
Nelson has agreed to sponsor a $1.2 million earmark in a Senate appropriations bill that will allow JTA to conduct an alternative analysis into commuter rail.
James Boyle,  a JTA regional transportation planner, said an alternative analysis is a detailed study that will determine where the stations might be put on a commuter rail line, which part of the system would be built first, and what type of train could be used.

Allllllright! Its about time we started studying this issue! Don't forget the enviromental aspects and the population demographics! Lets include hazards also and oh yea..............maybe the numbers can be something real since JTA appears to cook numbers for whatever they have in mind! It would seem to me that ROW might apply also along with some kind of time table...............the Chinese would be more than happy to fix us up and posed properly, they might even fund it, like they did for Argentina! Watcha think Ock?

Whatever happened to Ock's proclamations of "good news involving rail and skyway are closer than you think!" ?  Not for one minute do I doubt Ock's knowledge and abilities, but man - if this is the 'news' we've been waiting for, color me disappointed.

It maddens me to no end that the Skyway isn't being touched and is now being duplicated for the sake of fulfilling some JTA idiots' wet-dream obsession with buses.  Why, WHY WHY?!?!  WHY the hell are there no 'official' discussions about doing something productive and proactive with the existing infrastructure of Skyway or streetcar or anything else?

TRAINS COMING!

Doc? Think I'm 9 for 9 now! Hee Hee!

RE the RTA study - the Legislature set up a commission (with JTA as the chair) to further explore the details of "if" and if yes, "how" to start an RTA.

Like I said, I didn't doubt you.  It was just frustrating to hear that even 'fake' BRT would be coming long before rail.  I'm ecstatic that you're still battin' a thousand.

Now, if your 9-for-9 can become 10-for-10 in regards to the SkyWay, *that* would make my year!
