Does anyone know what this guy is talking about?
QuoteRail system is a good idea
Mayor John Peyton's plan to have a rail system from outlying areas into the city sounds like a wonderful idea, and the way of the future.
Along with the reliable bus system already in place, it would certainly ease the burden of commuter traffic snarl, which is a nightmare for many people to endure each day. With the congestion of their commute taking up to an hour or more just sitting in traffic to get into and return from the downtown area and other parts of the region.
I am from Buffalo, N.Y. It has a very successful train system into the downtown area from the outlying towns that is used by many people, professionals and blue-collar workers alike, to get back and forth to work.
It's not only the traffic clog that the public needs relief from, but also the limited availability and high cost of parking, as well.
As the mayor has pointed out, Jacksonville is growing faster than its current infrastructure of roadways can handle. Future commuter planning at this time is critical.
Let's wholeheartedly support his plan.

Thats pretty strange. Maybe Peyton mentioned something at his town hall meeting?
He may be refering the JTA commuter rail study announced the other day. COJ, JTA, ya know, their all the same :)
It sounds like he thinks BRT is the same as rail....
Either that or he is thinking the MetroJacksonville study is Peyton's plan?
Peyton doesn't appear to be a visionary. He also probably has his hands tied with the city's budget crisis and ethics issue than proposing rail systems. Earlier this year, when rail was mentioned at the Metro Jacksonville meeting he attended he claimed it was too expensive and that it was cheaper to build BRT, then convert BRT into light rail at a later date. In reality, if that's done we'll be paying for TWO systems and nearly double in the long run, instead of just getting it right the first time (kind of similar to the courthouse issue).
So, Roadking is probably right. Its likely a response to JTA's recently announced commuter rail study.
Why did the TU publish something that doesn't make any sense??

doesn't BRT stand for Better Rail Transit?

Ock/Mr. Mayor. Love the hydrofoil idea? Just imagine how much money the city could waste on a boat...what's that saying, "here that sucking sound...that the sound of the boat sucking the money out of your walet" ;D
