I am desperate for some Munchkins right now. There's one over on Atlantic, but I want one that's walkable. :'(
That gets my vote!
A co-branded DD at the new proposed BP station would certainly meet DD's traffic count requirements.
If you're entreprenurial... contact DD and the owner of the gas station and get some negotiations going!
What new proposed BP?

That's where I get me D&D coffee every morning. There is a stand alone Dunkin Donuts off of San Jose near San Marco and one off of Phillips & JTB that I know of...
LOL... Dunkin Donuts!

If you're referring to the location in Regency, they could close it today. Its horrible! I would think a decent Dunkin would fly downtown. or KK ... sure miss the Origonal KK on Cassatt...

The Donut Shoppe in Arlington is the best

No, there are several configurations available ranging from standalone stores(5 in Jax), instore kiosks, or shared building end caps. A drive-thru endcap could work within the design plan posted for the BP station. Traffic count and residential/working population fits in that location... its now just a matter of a franchisee with the capacity to step forward.
I believe in that intersection. A Walgreens/CVS/Rite Aid could absolutely work at the old Park View site as well. Its just going to take the cajones for someone to step up and do it. Underwriting it actually looks fairly positive with a good candidate.
QuoteThe Donut Shoppe in Arlington is the best
The donut shop next to Jackson's football field on Main is pretty decent too.
Anybody remember the donut shop near where Kickback is nowadays? I think its a CPA office now, but they used to have the best vanilla iced cake donuts with cocunut sprinkles on top!
There used to be a Dunkin Donuts Downtown. It was at the corner of Adams St and Julia St.
as for bagels, there is an Einstein's in the Hyatt...and Village Bread at the Landing also has them
I heard a few months ago that they were opening up some new DD's around town under new ownership. I've seen one on Beach near UNF and one on Roosevelt near NAS Jax. It's really surprising there isn't one someone in the downtown/Riverside/San Marco area. I imagine one would do really well, although the failure of the Starbucks in 11E may scare them away.

A grass lot would be a huge improvement to the still-hideous Parkview. But Walgreens/CVS would be a useful huge improvement..... With a Dunkin Donut Drive thru :D

remember that Starbucks actually did ok...they just made a national decision to close most of the recently opened stores as part of their downsizing efforts....which have worked out really well for stockholders
If they were doing that good, they would have closed The Landing location which has both a base payment and a percentage rent to pony up every month. The 11E Starbucks was getting basically free rent.
Starbucks did go through a right sizing initiative a few years ago, but it would be hard to believe they didn't pick The Landing over 11E if it wasn't for performance.
The Dunkin Donuts website lists some DD stores in Hess Gas Stations. Weird.

Use to work just up the street from that location. Went there a lot in the mornings, was a pretty lonely place, few customers. I suppose its not there anymore, not too surprising.
There are 2 DD's in OP, both are their own stores, both have drive thru. There is a Hess near my office (south San Jose Blvd, near Julington Creek) that serves DD. So far, I have resisted the urge every morning only because I have an addiction to Gate coffee, but one day i will make the left turn instead of just forging ahead.

Having fresh donuts in the morning would have helped them survive in that location a little longer.
Are there any freestanding Krispy Kreme stores in the Jacksonville area?
I've noticed a large number of Dunkin' Donut stores in the Vermont/ New Hampshire region.
It would be interesting to go through state natal statistics for newborn baby names
and see if anyone named their child "Dunkin' ", and followup to see if he or she ended up
playing basketball at a varsity or professional level.
Krystals used to sell doughnuts.

Actually, from what I had heard from people working at both stores, the 11E location did better business (at least in the evening) than the Landing.
Corporate Starbucks made a national decision to close newly opened stores....it was that simple.
Thank you for clearing things up for me regarding the 11E Starbucks. When it closed, I was left scratching my head and wondering, "How did downtown screw this one up?" Nonetheless, it disappointing for us to lose that Starbucks.
It was tough to see that one close.
I need to verify if the place is still open, but on 10th Street near Hemphill on the north side
of Georgia Tech is a storefront place called Sublime Doughnuts. Handmade and a little pricey
but very good, many varieties including red velvet.
Note to Ock:
Hemphill Street is named after someone, there is not a verdant marijuana covered hillock
in the center of metropolitan Atlanta.North Georgia probably somewhere. Don't fuel up your antique International Harvester combine and start heading towards I-75 north from I-10 through the Osceola National Forrest.

That krispy kreme has been closed for years, I believe the building is still standing but surrounded by a chain link fence
There's also a Krispy Kreme on Atlantic in front of the Lowe's between Girvin & Hodges.
I think that is the only Krispy Kreme left. I assume that is where they make the donuts that are sold at Gate gas stations and other locations around the city.

It was mentioned earlier, there is another on Sanjose near I-295.
Is the rent at the old 11E Starbucks location too high for a local to move in there? I think everyone here has said that the 11E SBUX was doing very well, so if there was something there that could replace it that would be great.
Portland, OR has some great stuff like that. The only problem is that they all close at like 5-6 pm! I would think that something like that would work.

There is only one I know of... On Atlantic , East of Girvin.. It closed for a while and then reopened.. There was one location built about the same time in Orange Park , but it closed and is now...of all things A Whataburger !
The KK on Cassatt , I believe was the origional one.. No idea how long it has been there but at least through my lifetime. If it has a fence around it , its probably awaiting demolition (hope not) but sure would be cool to see that one open again.
KK has better donuts but awful coffee, so overall I still like DD.
The funny thing is DD isn't real popular down here. In the northeast, DD's are ubiquitous. I mean there are like a dozen of them within any given 2 mile radius, and they're always busy. Cultural differences I guess, they just don't do as well in FL.

DD Downtown would be awesome!
When I was in Philly recently, the DDs are a big hit downtown and fit in nicely. (from google street view) (http://lh5.ggpht.com/_GhTb4kw3J1w/TI-glZ0I8TI/AAAAAAAAALs/swfL3yDKZgs/s640/dunkin.jpg)
Similar in style to this:
Looks like the DD that was across from my apartment in Center City, man I loved that place!!!
Downtown Chicago has several.
There is a Dunkin Donuts in Rome, Italy.....
believe it or not.....
Philadelphia and Chicago have a lot of foot traffic in their respective downtowns. I am guessing that this foot traffic helps to support establishments like Dunkin Donuts.
I agree Jaxson but Union with a drive thru would support downtown and have the cross traffic needed to supplement the downtown crowd.
Said it before many times on here...

That would be the perfect opportunity for a DD franchise.... either with an in-store kiosk or co-branded drive thru window where the gas station's cafe would be.
Has the developer of the new gas station heard any feedback from those of us who think a DD would be a good idea at the Main/Union location? JeffreyS and field bring up a good point that this might get downtown traffic plus traffic going towards Arlington Expressway (I.E. JU, etc)

No, no! Please no! The one on Mandarin is far enough away that I won't go. Any closer I cannot help myself, having a serious Krispy Kreme jones. Think I lost five or six pounds after the one on Cassat Ave. closed.
Downtown would just be too close to resist.
The other day I saw a KK donut stand ironically right in front of the old KK location on Cassat.

Yea...why did the Cassat Ave store close? did they go to distribution only?
And MOST IMPORTANTLY.....WHO got the red neon sign donut that told us when the batch was just out fresh?
I think in later years it just stayed on all the time.

That's been a companywide trend. The older model stores are being phased out.
That whole block sucks now. Winn Dixie closed, Krispy Kreme, hell the adult toy store in the strip mall next to it closed too, lol.
Personally, if we're talking about Westside then I miss the donut store on King Street next to where Kickbacks is now. My grandfather used to take me up there every Saturday morning for some cocunut sprinkled donuts.
I love Dunkin', having grown up right near one in Jax. I later lived about three hours from the nearest one, and lemme tell you, the drive was tempting on several occasions. :P
I was so in love with the number of Dunkin Donuts in New England upon my first visit there. I previously had no idea they were headquartered in the Boston area, so I was shocked to see them pretty much outnumber everything. I ate at a different one every day, going through a whole box of munchkins each time. :P I even decided to photograph as many unique DD signs as I possibly could, without even going out of my way I ended up with dozens. I found a bus in P'town that was painted in a DD mural, and also happened to come across the Dunkin Donuts Center (arena) in Providence, which I had no idea existed. I had to pinch myself. I found 2 DD's near Worcester that were absolutely across the street from each other -- it was a dangerous street to cross, so rather than having 'America run on Dunkin' and into traffic, they just put two of 'em!
There are over 500 DD's in the Greater Boston area. Can you imagine?! :o
I was also very impressed with their well integrated urban franchises throughout the beautiful historic neighborhoods of Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, etc. I love when I can feel good about a company for doing that. Same with Publix, compared to so many other supermarkets.

My father in law used to drive a KK truck in his younger days. Besides your pay, you got two dozen hot, fresh donuts each day. He said he just drove around eating donuts all day. Sounds magical.
Sweet! How young did he die? :)
