Title: July 4 Celebrations
Post by: BridgeTroll on July 02, 2010, 02:13:01 PM
What are your plans for the weekend?  We will be having a cookout Saturday evening with neighbors.  Sunday evening we will be downtown for the fireworks and party at Marks.

What is everybody doing? :)

Heading to the Crowne Plaza. Great views and they have a cookout and full bar on the pool deck every year.

Do you have to have tickets for that?  Website says something about 'see cashier for tickets'

Unfortunately I think it is only residents and guests.  They're having a big shindig, but I am hoping to just go up for the fireworks and not have to pay..... ;)

My friend Jeanie has a  Cozy little Lake Cabin with all the ammenities /no telephone, in Keystone Heights... We go there every year for the 4th as they have a Fireworks display right down the street....Every 4 wheel drive and Pickup truck in Clay County (give or take one or two) converges to the Twin Lakes Park to see this display,  We chill at the Cabin with a great view of the Fireworks from the front yard about 500 feet from said display...And then afterward, watch all these people attempt to flee like rats from a burning ship from this place...takes usually til after Midnight. It can be quite comical! :)  Happy 4th everyone :)

As a rule, I don't use MetroJax as an Orsay shill, but hey... it's nearly 3 in the morning, and I'll maintain the level of candor and lack of polish that I hope MetroJax readers have come to expect from me.  We're holding our 2nd annual 4th of July Backyard BBQ on Sunday.  Last year we sold 200 advance tickets and let in about 350 people, which was a few too many, in all honesty, based on what we had prepared for.  This year we're planning for at least 500.  The ENTIRE parking lot is tented, as we speak (that doubles as a gigantic car port for those of you that may choose to dine with us Saturday night).

1PM - 6PM, $25 buys you a ticket for all you care to eat, for as long as you want to stay - sliders of braised short ribs with napa cabbage slaw, BBQ chicken, burgers, kosher dogs poached in PBR, popcorn with white truffle powder, snow cones, lobster hush puppies, cookies, cupcakes, ice cream cones, blah blah blah...  Bring the family, if you have one, because kids under ten eat free.  Cash bars outside serving $1 PBR's and $3 cocktails, full bar available inside, where you can run a tab, but this is the one day a year where having your restaurant situated across the street from not one, but TWO convenience stores might possibly be a positive.  If you choose to avail yourself of the nearby ATMs, I heartily endorse the AP.  Friendly folks over there.

Complimentary commemorative koozies, until they run out.  Orsay family reunion t-shirts available.  Live music.  If you just want to come up for a couple drinks before hosting your own BBQ, that's cool too - if you don't want to eat, all the drink offerings are available to all - no cover.

Oh yeah, and I'll be at Orsay all night (literally) leading into the 4th, tending to a 100# pig, slow roasting in a Caja China (she's resting peacefully in a flavorful brine of salt, sugar, honey, garlic, and cider vinegar in my walk-in as I write this).  If you've ever sat on the cool sofas in the lounge, that's where I'll be sleeping in one hour shifts tomorrow night, between throwing fresh coals on the Caja China and (most likely) having a drink every now and then...
